이 그림을 본다면 그 누구가 감상을 하였던지 간에 역동성이란 단어가 금방 떠오를 것이다. 십자가를 끌어올리는 근육질 장정들의 모습에서 강인함은 한 눈에 드러난다. 루벤스 그림에서 흔히 찾을 수 있는 이 역동성은 2천 여점이 넘는 작품을 남긴 그의 업적과 결부되어 한층 더 보는 맛을 더하게 하는 것 같다.
부연 설명에 드러나는 가장 루벤스다운 작품이라는 표현은 바로 이러한 점을 보고 하는 말이 아닌가 싶다. 다음으로 돋보이는 과장되었다 싶을 정도의 감각적 표현과 작품의 대각선 구도 또한 그림의 바로크적 매력을 한층 더한다는 것이 감상자로서의 생각이다. 덧붙여 인물 표현에 있어서 표정이 매우 사실적이어서 보는 재미를 한층 더한다는 것이 또한 개인적 느낌이다.
