스테판스키가 드래프트를 3일 앞두고 기자회견을 열었는데, 플레이오프 1라운드에서 밀워키에게 스윕당하고 처음이었습니다. 아래는 기자회견 내용입니다.
스테판스키 (드래프트에 관하여):
"I love the players that show grit that want to be in the gym, that want to work out, that want to be coached,"
"Talent is one thing and you can’t replace it, but if you don't want to put that effort in and do what we want them to do, you can strike out. And we can’t strikeout. That’s what I keep saying. We can take a swing for the fences and if we have to sit on the bench because we struck out, that’s not going to help our franchise where we are today. We have to make nice little moves that help us."
"We have decided – and we did a real nice job in the draft last year – to get good people, number one. Hard-working people, people that are coachable, people that have some grit to them,"
"We got two of them last year. The makeup of those two individuals we really like. That’s what we feel we need, those type of players that are Detroit Pistons. Now hopefully we can get that type of player with a skillset."
"We need to keep getting the talent better. If a wing was there that we felt had the best upside, yeah, we would take that, but there’s numerous guys still in our mix in various positions. So, again, we’ll go with best talent pretty much,"
"Listen, today’s NBA is about shooters and playmakers,"
"I'm happy we’re at 15 instead of 42. We’re going to get a player, a player that’s going to help us. Will they crack the rotation next year? That’s going to be tough. But they’re going to be no worse than a rotation player. Hopefully we find that player and we have a terrific development group so that he becomes a starter down the line."
스테판스키 (로스터 구성에 관하여):
“The philosophy right now is we have those three (Griffin, Drummond, Jackson) and we’re going with them, but I have no idea what (else is) going to happen,”
“Blake Griffin is pretty darn good. He’s a warrior, what we saw out there. I don’t know what package someone could offer — I don’t shop him.
“Andre Drummond is getting better and better. In the second half of last year, he showed what he could possibly be. Our coaching staff has done a fantastic job with him.”
“(Pistons medical consultant) Arnie Kander told me Reggie wouldn’t be ready until the middle of January with his ankle. He was right on; he was terrific in the second half,”
“Our Big Three came on nicely. It happened to be that Blake got hurt at the wrong time.”

드래프트 선수지명에서 가장 강조한 것은:
1. Hard-Working Player
2. Coachable Player
3. GRIT
이러한 것이고, 대충 유추해보면, 슈팅도 어느정도는 갖췄으면 하는 뉘앙스를 풍겼습니다. 이렇게만 보면, Nickeil Alexander-Walker 와 Nassir Little 이 조금 앞서가고 있는거 아닌가 조심스레 예측하고 있는가운데, 만약 디트로이트가 가장 필요로 하는 wing 자원이 없다면, 보드에 남아있는 선수들중에서 best talent 를 지명할 예정입니다. 디트로이트의 현재 로스터에 관해서는 그리핀, 드러먼드, 그리고 레잭의 코어3인방으로 일단은 끌고 가려고 하지만, 끝에 “어떠한 일이 일어날지는 장담할수없다” 고 이야기했습니다. 레잭은 이제 계약 마지막해이고, 드러먼드도 2년남았습니다. 그리핀에 관해서는 먼저 trading block 에 올린적이 없음을 이야기했고, 딱히 트레이드하기도 쉽지않을것입니다 (뉘앙스만 보면 그리핀이 제일 언터쳐블). 덧붙여서, 글로삼에 대한 팀옵션을 실행하지말지는 아직 정하지 못했다고 합니다 (데드라인은 6월29일까지). 그리고 남아있는 샐러리가 그렇게 많지 않아서, 이것을 어떻게 나눠서 선수영입을 할지도 머리아파보입니다. 글로삼에 대한 팀옵션을 실행하지않으면 조금 더 여유가 있을텐데 말이죠. 이제 정말 하루 남았습니다. 너무 큰 기대했다가 실망하면 안될텐데ㅜㅜㅜ
