This is a damning blow to US President Donald Trump who has praised the leader of the hermit kingdom for his denuclearisation gestures during the pairs historical meeting in June 2018. There they signed a commitment to build "a stable and lasting peace" on the Korean peninsula. At the June 2018 summit, Trump spoke of a "special bond" with the North Korean leader and said he was "absolutely" willing to invite him to the White House.

But, the latest UN report suggests that the dictator is working to protect his nuclear program ahead of a second planned summit between Trump and Kim later this month.
