존 베일리의 기도 (16일 저녁):
내 주님의 수난을 묵상할 수 있게 해 주시옵소서

약하고 고통당하는 우리를 위해 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 축복된 생애와 죽음 속에서 영원한 사랑을 완전하게 보여주신 당신께 간구합니다. 나로 하여금 이제 슬픔 중에 계신 그와 동행하면서 내 주님의 수난을 묵상할 수 있게 해 주시옵소서. 그리하면 내가 그의 능력과 평화의 비밀을 배울 수 있겠나이다.
나는 겟세마네 동산을 기억합니다.
나는 유다의 배반을 기억합니다.
나는 베드로의 부인(否認)을 기억합니다.
나는 제자들의 배반과 도망침을 기억합니다.
나는 채찍질 당하심을 기억합니다.
나는 가시 면류관을 기억합니다.
나는 주님께 침 뱉음을 기억합니다.
나는 갈대로 그의 머리를 친 것을 기억합니다.
나는 못 박힌 손과 발을 기억합니다.
나는 십자가의 고초를 기억합니다.
나는 그의 목마름을 기억합니다.
나는 ‘나의 하나님, 나의 하나님, 어찌하여 나를 버리시나이까’하는 외침을 기억합니다.
우리는 그가 당하신 고통을
다 알 수도 없고 말할 수도 없습니다.
그러나 그가 십자가에 달리시고 고통 받으신 것은
우리를 위한 것임을 믿습니다.(1)
은혜로우신 하나님, 당신께 무릎 꿇고 기도하오니, 나로 하여금 그리스도의 십자가를 통해서 오는 생명과 구원을 얻은 무리 속에 포함되게 하소서. 그의 고난으로부터 세대를 거쳐 흘러내린 구속의 능력이 내 영혼에도 흐르게 하소서. 이제 나로 하여금 죄의 용서를 발견하게 해 주소서. 이제 나로 하여금 세상의 고통의 짐을 주님과 함께 나누는 법을 배우게 하소서. 예수님의 이름으로 기도하옵나이다.
O Thou whose eternal love for our weak and struggling race was most perfectly shown forth in the blessed life and death of Jesus Christ our Lord, enable me now so to meditate upon my Lord's passion that, having fellowship with Him in His sorrow, I may also learn the secret of His strength and peace.
I remember Gethsemane:
I remember how Judas betrayed Him:
I remember how Peter denied Him:
I remember how they all forsook Him and fled:
I remember the scourging:
I remember the crown of thorns:
I remember how they spat upon Him:
I remember how they smote Him on the head with a reed:
I remember His pierced hands and feet:
I remember His agony on the Cross:
I remember His thirst:
I remember how He cried, My God, my God, why hast Thou forsaken me?
We may not know, we cannot tell,
What pains He had to bear;
But we believe it was for us
He hung and suffered there.
Grant, O most gracious God, that I who now kneel before Thee may be embraced in the great company of those to whom life and salvation have come through the Cross of Christ. Let the redeeming power that has flowed from His sufferings through so many generations flow now into my soul. Here let me find forgiveness of sin. Here let me learn to share with Christ the burden of the suffering of the world. Amen.

where the dear Lord was crucified,
who died to save us all.

he died to make us good,
