◆ Stars and their Characteristics
별과 별들의 특징
The major principle of Zi Wei Dou Shu lies in the characterization of the stars. This is an especially crucial essence in San He Zi Wei Dou Shu. The stars that are utilized in Flying Star Zi Wei Dou Shu are usually much lesser than the San He style.
자미두수의 주요 원리는 별의 특징에 있다. 이것은 삼합파 자미두수에서 특히 중요한 본질이다. 비성 자미두수에 사용되는 별들은 보통 삼합 스타일보다 훨씬 작다.
My personal preference is to use about 29 stars (14 Main Stars: Zi Wei, Tian Ji, Tai Yang, Wu Qu, Tian Tong, Lian Zhen, Tian Fu. Tai Yin, Tan Lang, Ju Men, Tian Xiang. Tian Liang, Qi Sha. Po Jun, 6 Assistant Stars: Wen Chang(文昌 [Wénchāng]), Wen Qu(文曲), Zuo Fu(左辅 [zuŏ fŭ]), You Bi(右弼), Tian Kuil(天魁), Tian Yue(天钺), 4 Malevolent Stars: Qing Yang(擎羊), Tuo Luo(陀羅), Huo Xing(火星), Ling Xing(鈴星), and 5 Minor Stars: Lu Cun(祿存), Tian Ma(天馬), Tian Xing(天刑), Tian Yao(天姚), Yin Sha(陰煞))

In Flying Star Zi Wei Dou Shu, it is important to note that there is no concept of Dual Stars reading (e.g. Zi Wei and Tan Lang in Life Palace), which was a prevalent feature in the San He style. All the stars are to be treated separately with their own sets of transformations and dealt with on a case by case basis. And in this style, there are no emphasis on the magnitude of stars henceforth these aspects are not incorporated therein.

1. Zi wei is the Emperor Star, the highest ranked of all stars and it is of Ji Earth. Its transformation is esteem and respect, and while it is able to curb malevolent stars, it also can be influenced by these entities. Wherever the palace is Zi wei star situated in, it gets the benefit of having malevolence curbed, and given longevity and sustainability.
