더불어민주당이 쿠팡의 대규모 개인정보 유출 사태에 대한 국정조사 요구서를 제출했다. 민주당은 30~31일 열린 국회 연석청문회에 김범석 쿠팡Inc 이사회 의장이 ‘해외 거주’를 이유로 불출석한 만큼, 국정조사에는 김 의장을 무조건 불러 세우겠다는 방침이다.

국회 과학기술정보방송통신위원회 여당 간사 김현 의원과 외교통일위원회 여당 간사 김영배 의원 등은 31일 오후 국회 의안과에 쿠팡 개인정보 유출 사태에 대한 국정조사 요구서를 제출했다.

김현 의원은 “(김 의장은) 노동자 사망 사건 등으로 국정감사 기간에 증인으로 채택됐음에도 불구하고 해외 거주라는 이유로 불출석했다. 개인정보 유출 사건 이후에도 마찬가지”라며 “김 의장이 국내에 들어와 책임 있는 답변과 피해 보상에 대한 대책을 내놔야 한다”고 말했다.

이어 “동행명령과 관련해선 국정조사는 여야 합의 사안이기 때문에 계획서와 증인이 채택된 뒤에도 김 의장이 요지부동일 경우 동행명령장을 발부할 것”이라며 “그 다음에 벌어질 일은 그때 논의하겠다”고 했다.

김영배 의원은 “쿠팡의 작전은 우리 국민과 정부에게는 마찰을 감수하고서라도 미국에 있는 주주들과 주가 관리에만 올인하겠다는 태도”라며 “쿠팡이 미국에서 기업 가치를 인정받으려면 ‘김범석 리스크’를 제거하는 것이 미국 시장 자본주의를 건전하게 만들어 한미동맹에도 기여하는 방법”이라고 말했다.

국정조사는 ▲대규모 개인정보 유출 사태 ▲노동자 사망 사건 ▲불공정 거래 등을 다룰 예정이다. 국민의힘이 그동안 청문회 대신 국정조사를 주장해 온 만큼, 민주당이 추진하는 국정조사에 참여할 가능성도 있다.

김현정 민주당 원내대변인은 “국민의힘이 연석청문회는 동의할 수 없고 국정조사를 요구했기 때문에 당연히 그걸 전제로 해서 제출한 것”이라며 “쿠팡 사태 국정조사에는 다른 변명 말고 적극적으로 협조해야 한다”고 했다.
