조국혁신당은 당의 간판인 조국 대표의 여의도 복귀가 불발되면서 치명상을 입었다. 특히 조 대표 선거에 당력을 총동원한 결과 텃밭인 호남 선거에서도 기대에 못 미치는 성적표를 받아들었다. 조 대표는 4일 “선거 결과에 책임을 지고 당대표직에서 물러나겠다”고 했다. 반면 진보당은 4년 전 선거의 2배에 달하는 지방의원을 배출했다. 개혁신당은 기초의원 단 1명만 당선됐다.

진보당은 후보 304명을 내 광역의원 7명, 기초의원 34명 등 당선자 41명을 배출했다. 김재연 진보당 상임대표는 “4년 전 지방선거(21명 당선)의 두 배에 달하는 당선자를 만들어주신 국민께 감사드린다”고 했다. 다만 진보당은 민주당과 범여권 단일화까지 이뤘지만 울산 동구청장, 부산 연제구청장 선거에서 국민의힘 후보에게 패했다.
개혁신당은 후보 190명이 출마했으나 기초 의원 1명(김기현 경기 화성시의원 후보)만 당선됐다. 서울시장 선거에선 김정철 후보가 0.82%를 얻어 원외 정당 후보인 유지혜 여성의당 후보(0.84%)보다 적은 지지를 받았고, 조응천 경기지사 후보도 4.32%에 그쳤다. 이준석 개혁신당 대표는 “훌륭한 후보들이 마땅히 받았어야 할 성적을 얻지 못한 책임은, 부족한 당세로 그들을 충분히 뒷받침하지 못한 저 이준석과 중앙당에 오롯이 있다”고 했다.
