We often think of creativity as a grand ability to create something completely new in the absence of anything. But true creativity is to discover hidden beauty in the mediocrity we encounter every day. Creativity shines even more, especially in the fields of culture and art that breathe new value into things that are discarded in everyday life.
I was thinking about what to make while doing an activity called Making Upcycle Bags in a recent school art class, so I went to the school garbage dump and made my own Upcycle Bags using discarded umbrellas, discarded books, and boxes. At first, I didn't know how to make a bag with materials that seemed just old and useless, but when I saw your example, I thought about how to make it again and started making it. However, amazing changes occurred in the process of conceiving the shape of the bag, attaching it, and using scissors. When an ordinary object that others have inadvertently passed and discarded went through a creative gaze, it has been reborn as a practical and beautiful art that is unique in the world.
Through this experience, I realized that creativity is not a great skill, but a result of 'looking differently'. Finding beauty hidden by familiarity and mediocrity and giving it new value, I think, is the essence of true creativity that enriches our culture and daily life.
