The 2018 Annual Meeting will be held on August 9-11 2018 at the New Room, Bristol, England, on the theme of ‘Charles Wesley and Bristol’, though papers on any aspect of Charles Wesley’s life and work will be welcome.

The New Room was built by John Wesley in 1739, and is the oldest Methodist building in the world. It has recently been restored and developed, and now offers modern conference facilities within a unique Methodist historic setting. The programme will comprise academic papers, including a keynote address by Dr. Martin Clarke, author of British Methodist Hymnody: Theology, Heritage, and Experience (Routledge, 2017), and visits to historic Wesley sites in Bristol, including Charles Wesley’s home. Bristol is an attractive waterfront city combining an historic centre with a vibrant 21st. century café scene. For those attending the Oxford Institute (August 12-19), Oxford is 85 miles distant, a journey taking around 90 minutes by train or automobile.

The conference is residential, but day delegates are also welcome. Accommodation has been pre-booked for delegates at the Premier Inn, Lewins Mead, a three minute walk from the New Room. Thursday and Friday evening meals have also been booked at the hotel’s restaurant, which serves English pub food (delegates pay on the night).

To reserve your place, please complete and return the form overleaf with your payment or payment advice to Clive Norris, UK Secretary/Treasurer, at cjpr_norris@hotmail.com. Clive will be happy to answer any questions that you may have.
