A UNESCO World Heritage Site in Gyeongju — gates, bridges, pagodas and halls of the Buddha Land.
The Iljumun is the first of the mountain gates that one passes through when entering a temple precinct. Its single line of pillars reminds visitors to gather a scattered mind into one before stepping onto sacred ground.
Within the Gate of the Four Heavenly Kings are enshrined the Four Kings who stand as guardians of the Dharma. Each king watches over one direction of the world, protecting the teaching and the faithful who pass beneath them.
The worship halls are served by two pairs of stone bridges. To the east, the Cheongungyo and Baekungyo rise toward the Daeungjeon — grand and monumental. To the west, the Yeonhwagyo and Chilbogyo lead toward Anyangmun and Geungnakjeon — quieter and more intimate.
