옛날에는 차 문을 다시 열고 쾅 닫는(slam the door) 경우가 흔했지만, 요즘은 사정이 다르다(that's not the case these days). 오히려 차 주인이 “문 좀 살살 다뤄달라(Take it easy on the door)”고 부탁할 지경이다. 상대가 이 말을 잘 이해하지 못한다면, ‘살살 닫아달라’는 표현을 다시 분명히 해야 한다. 쾅 소리를 내며(with a loud bang) 닫는 것이 slam이므로, don't slam the door라고 하면 된다.
표현 연구 : 영화를 보면 경찰이 흉기를 든 인질범에게 “Take it easy”라고 하는데 “진정해(Calm down)”의 뜻이다. 또한 “Take it easy”는 겁먹은 사람에게 “안심해(Relax)"라는 말로 들리며, 차를 급히 모는 사람들은 “천천히 가(Slow down)”라는 뜻으로 이해할 수도 있다. 무엇보다도, 이 표현은 “안녕(Take care)”이라는 작별 인사로도 쓰임을 잊지 말자.
