소식을 전해 주셔서 감사합니다. 송암 스님께서 입적하셨다는 소식을 저는 미처 알지 못했고, 그 소식을 듣고 매우 슬펐습니다.
촬영 당시 송암 스님께서 우리를 무척 기쁘게 맞아주셨던 모습이 기억납니다. 그분의 기쁨은 주변 사람들에게까지 전해질 정도로 밝고 따뜻했습니다. 분명 몸은 많이 지쳐 계셨을 텐데, 전혀 내색하지 않으셨습니다. 또한 베르나르 신부님을 진심으로 반갑게 맞이하셨던 모습도 기억합니다. 아마 그 만남 덕분에 하루만큼은 피로를 잊으셨을 것입니다. 어쩌면 그것이 마지막 방문이 될 것임을 스님 스스로 알고 계셨는지도 모르겠습니다.
또 한 가지 기억나는 것은 스님께서 훗날 자신이 묻힐 장소를 직접 보여주셨다는 점입니다. 마치 평온함과 고요함 속에서 이 세상을 떠날 준비를 하고 계신 듯한 모습이었습니다.
이곳 프랑스는 며칠째 심한 폭염에 시달리고 있습니다. 거의 2주 가까이 지역에 따라 기온이 26도에서 40도까지 오르고 있습니다. 특히 6월에 이런 날씨는 이전에는 경험해 본 적이 없습니다. 사람들뿐 아니라 자연도 함께 고통받고 있습니다. 저는 집에서 재택근무를 하며 이동식 선풍기를 방마다 옮겨 다니고 있습니다. 이동식 에어컨을 하나 사고 싶지만, 매장마다 품절이라 구할 수가 없습니다.
드디어 지난 금요일에 다큐멘터리 작업을 모두 마쳤습니다! 결과물에 만족하고는 있지만, 아직은 작품으로부터 충분한 거리를 두지 못해 완전히 객관적으로 평가하기는 어렵습니다.
가장 어려웠던 작업은 인터뷰 내용 중 어떤 부분을 선택할지 결정하는 일이었습니다. 훌륭한 이야기와 아름다운 영상이 너무 많았기 때문입니다. 게다가 엔딩 크레디트까지 포함해 전체 분량이 26분밖에 되지 않아 선택이 쉽지 않았습니다.
최종 제목은 「Heaven's Field(천국의 들판)」, 부제는 「A Jesuit in South Korea(한국의 한 예수회 신부)」로 정해졌습니다.
이 다큐멘터리는 8월 9일 일요일 오전 10시 30분, 프랑스 공영방송 France 2에서 미사 중계 직전에 방송될 예정입니다.

Thank you for your news. I did not know that Venerable Songam had passed away, and it made me very sad. I remember that during our visit he welcomed us with great joy, a joy that was truly contagious. He must have been very tired, but he did not show it. I also think that he was genuinely happy to receive Father Bernard, which certainly helped him forget his fatigue for the day. He probably knew that it would be his last visit. I also remember that he showed us the place where he would be buried, as he was preparing to leave this world with peace and serenity.
Here in France, we have been suffering from an intense heatwave for several days. For nearly two weeks, temperatures have ranged from 26°C to 40°C, depending on the region. We have never experienced anything like this before, especially in June! Nature is suffering as much as people are. I work from home with a portable fan that I move from room to room. I would like to buy a portable air conditioner, but the stores have run out of stock.
I finally completed the documentary last Friday! I am pleased with the result, although I still do not have enough distance from the project to judge it fully. The most difficult part for me was selecting excerpts from the interviews. I had so much valuable material and so many beautiful images that it was not easy to make choices, especially since I only had 26 minutes in total, including the closing credits.
The final title of the film is Heaven's Field, with the subtitle A Jesuit in South Korea. It will be broadcast on France 2 on Sunday, August 9, at 10:30 a.m., just before the televised Mass. I will send you the film after it has been broadcast. I sincerely hope that you will enjoy it !
