신란성인(Shinran,1173~1262)은 일본 정토진종(Jodo Shintsu)의 창시자이다. 가마쿠라시대(1185~1333)를 살다.
Religious awakening is the realization of timeles time in each moment of temporal activity. The ultimate dimension breaks into the historical dimension, the timelessness penetrates time. 'One thought moment' is time at its ultimate limit, where the realization of shinjin(眞信) takes place.
종교적인 각성(종교적인 깨어남)이란 매 순간 의 세속적인 활동 가운데서 무시간의 시간을 실현 하는 일이다. 궁극적인 차원이 역사적 차원 가운데로 밀고 들어와, 무시간이 시간을 투과한다. 일념의 한 순간이 극한의 시간이다. 바로 그기에서 진실된 신심(眞信)이 일어난다.
The "one thought moment" underscores the irrepalaceable, ultimate value of the here and now. It is the moment vertical time breaks through into horizontal or linear time,
the absolute penetrating the relative.
"일념의 순간"은 '지금 여기'가 무엇으로도 대체할 수 없는 궁극적 가치가 있음을 강조한다.
그것은 수직의 시간(영원,eternity)의 수평의 시간 혹은 직선상의 시간 속으로 뚫고 들어와 절대가 상대를 관통하는 바로 그 순간이다.
In Buddhist discourse it is also the moment of formless reality, called dharmakaya, appearing as the Primal Vows of America in human consciousness.
불교에서는 그것을'무형의 실재'인 법신(法身)의 순간 이며, 인간의 의식속에 "아미타불의 본원(本願)"으로 나타난다고 가르친다.
Such an experience of time changes its original futuristic connotation of "Birth in the Pure Land" into a radical affirmation of the here & now.
그러한 시간 체험은 "정토에 왕생한다"는 미래 지향적인 원래의 의미를 급진적으로 변화시켜서 "지금 당장 여기"를 긍정하게 한다.
Awaken yourself to shinjin(true faith) here and now.
지금 당장 진신을 일깨워라.
Shinjin is a kind of trust where doubt is non-existence and assertion of any kind is unnecessary.
진신은 의심이 없을 뿐만 아니라. 어떠한 주장(정말이라고 말 할)필요가 없는 그러한 믿음이다.
Since it also has nothing to do woth the fickle mind of human beings, 'shinhin' can be translated as ' true entrusting', an entrusting that is made possible by that which is true and real, namely Amitabha Buddha.
그것은 인간의 변덕스러운 마음과은 아무 상관이 없기에, '순수한 맡김'이라고 번역할 수가 있는데, 이는 오직 참되며 진실된 아미타불에 의해서만 가능한 '맡김'이다.
"Shinjin" is "returning to the ocean of the Primal Vow".
진신(眞信)이란 "본원(本願)의 바다(願海)로 돌아옴"이다.
The working of shinjin is ultimately inconceivable, inexplicable, and indescribable. It is like the medicing that eradicates poisons.
진신의 효용은 궁극적으로 부사의하며, 설명할 수 없고, 필설로 형용핳 수 없다. 그것은 독을 제거하는 약과 같다.
The medicine of the Tathagatha's Vow destoys the poisons of our wisdom and foolishness. When we think that we have attained some kind of wisdom, it is nothing but arrogance, and as such it poisons us and those around us.
여래의 본원(如來의 本願)은 우리의 지혜와 어리석음의 독소를 파괴한다. 우리가 어느 정도 지혜를 얻었다고 생각할 때, 그것은 다름아닌 오만함이다. 그렇게 하여 우리와 우리의 이웃을 중독시킨다.
불교에는 지혜의 각성으로 해탈하는 법이 있는가 하면, 믿음으로 해탈하는 법이 있다. 우주적인 자비의 현신인 아미타불을 믿음으로 인해 해탈을 성취하는 법은 민중적인 신앙이다. |
