*중음(中陰, 바르도,bardo)이란 사람이 죽어서 다음 생을 받아 환생하기까지의 과도 기간을 말한다. 즉 삶과 죽음, 임종과 재생의 중간 단계(the state inbetween dying & rebirth)인데, 이 때는 망자의 무의식의 기억 속에 저장되어있던 업력(Karmic force)이 환영이 되어, 펼쳐져 나와 가상의 현실(virtual reality)로 체험하게 된다.
1)살아 있는 동안 (본유/本有 라고 한다) ;
인생은 길지 않다. 허비할 시간이 별로 없다. 그러므로 법(法, Dharma)를 배워서 숙고하며, 수행하는 데 내 인생을 활용할 수 있기를. 그리하여 내가 보고, 듣고, 생각하는 것, 내 몸과 말 과 마음이 삼신(三身)의 체현이 되기를 !
Life is not so long . There is not much time to be wasted. Therefore may I use my life for learning, contemplation,and practice so that what I see, what I hear, and what I think ; body, speech and mind - may these become the embodiment of Three Kayas !
*삼신 ; 법신, 보신, 화신을 말한다.
2)꿈속에서(夢有/몽유라고 한다) ;
무지(無知)와 멍청함을 극복하고, 마음챙김과 각성을 견지하여 내가 꿈을 통달할 수 있기를 ! 그리하어 궁극의 본성인 정광명(淨光明)을 깨달아 지이다.
Overcoming the ignorance and mindlessness, with mindfulness and awareness may I master the dream so that the clear light of ultimate essence may be realized !
3)선정중음(禪定中陰/선정중음 즉, 삼매 상태에서 경험되는 정신현상) ;
마음이 산란하거나 집착됨이 없이 관상과 해체를 통달하기를 ! 무한의 경계를 깨달아지이다.
Without wandering and clinging, may I master the visualization and resolution !
May I realize the limitlessness !
4)임종할 때(사유/死有라고 한다) ;
애착과 분노, 무지에 휘둘리지 아니하고, 성스러운 방편과 기르침을 부지런히 수행하여, 나의 의식이 위대한 법성(法性, Dharmata)으로 전이되어 궁극의 본성을 깨달아 지이다.
Without being overcomed by attachment and ignorance,practising diligently the sacred method and instructions may I be able to be transferred to Dharmata and realize the ultimate essence !
5)법성중음(法性中陰/숨이 끊어진지 삼일 밤낮동안 혼절 상태에 머물러 있다가, 어느 순간 찬란한 광명(이것은 우리의 본성의 발현인데)이 비쳐오며 심오한 행복감을 느끼게 되는데, 보통의 중생들은 이 순간을 알아차리지 못하고 그냥 지나쳐버리게 된다. 이러한 놀랄만한 순간의 경험을 법성중음이라 한다)
모든 현상이 내 마음의 유희임을 알아서, 두려움에서 벗어나, 자기를 깨달아 자발적 해탈을 성취할 수 있기를 ! 모든 유리한 조건이나 복스러운 인연이 의미있는 결과를 가져오기를 !
By recognizing all manifestations as one`s own things, may I be free from fear & be able to attain self-liberation, & self-recognition !
May either positive conditions or fortunate ones be meaningful !
6)안정되고 오롯한 원력으로 말미암아 내가 극락정토나 수행하기에 유리한 환경에 태어 나게 되기를 !
By means of my stabilized & one-pointed aspiration, either in Pure Land or in the environments favorable for Dharma-practice may I be reborn !
