1996년 빌보드 싱글차트 14주간 정상을 차지 하며 마카레나 춤을 전세계에 유행시켰던 노래...마카레나는 포르투칼어로는 '농담(just kidding)이다'라는 뜻이다. 안토니오 로메로가 작곡 작사한 이 곡은 베네주엘라의 한 댄서에게서 영감을 받은 그날 밤에 완성된 곡이라 한다.
허영기 있는 소녀에게는 '마카레나'라는 이름을, 그녀의 남자친구에게는 스페인의 유명한 가축회사 이름인 '비토리노'라는이름을 붙여 가사를 만들고, 그 찬사를 노래의 후렴구로 만들었다고 한다.
