터키 방산업체 아셀산(Aselsan)이 터키 해군 바르바로스급 프리깃함(TCG ORUÇREİS, F-245)의 중기 수명 현대화(Mid-Life Upgrade, MLU) 프로젝트를 성공적으로 완료하였습니다. 이번 업그레이드는 MEKO 200 TN-II 설계를 기반으로 한 바르바로스급 프리깃함을 대상으로 세계에서 가장 포괄적인 MEKO급 개량 프로젝트로 평가받고 있습니다.
주요 개량 항목은 레이더, 전자전 시스템, 전투 관리 시스템, 위성통신, 전자광학 장비, 무장 및 사격통제 시스템, 수중 탐지장비, 항해 지원 시스템 등 총 21개 시스템입니다.
아셀산은 이번 개량을 통해 함정의 상부 구조 및 내부 레이아웃 변경, 주 마스트 설계 변경, 해상 안정성 분석 등 전반적인 함체 설계 최적화 작업도 함께 수행하였습니다.
아셀산 CEO 아흐메트 아크욜(Ahmet Akyol)은 "세계에서 가장 복잡하고 대규모 MEKO급 함정 개량을 완수한 경험을 바탕으로 향후 자국 해군은 물론 동맹국 해군에도 최첨단 해군 시스템을 지속 공급할 것"이라고 밝혔습니다.

Aselsan has concluded the mid-life upgrade (MLU) programme on the Turkish Navy’s Barbaros-class frigate, TCG ORUÇREİS, enhancing its operational capabilities with advanced indigenous solutions.
The Barbaros-MLU project, launched by the Turkish Presidency of Defence Industries, is noted as the most comprehensive modernisation initiative for MEKO-class frigates globally.
The project’s aim is to bolster the capabilities of the Barbaros-class frigates, which are based on the MEKO 200 TN-II design by Blohm + Voss.
TCG ORUÇREİS (F-245) was laid in July 1992, launched in July 1994, and commissioned in May 1996.
The Barbaros-class frigates have been equipped with a combined diesel or gas (CODOG) propulsion system and feature a complete citadel for improved nuclear, biological, and chemical (NBC) protection.
Under Aselsan’s main contractorship, TCG ORUÇREİS has undergone a transformation with the renewal of 21 systems.
These enhancements include radar, electronic warfare, integrated combat and satellite communication systems, electro-optic, weapon and fire control systems, as well as underwater and navigation support systems.
In addition, Aselsan has also carried out redesign work that involved main mast modifications, above and below deck arrangement activities, and analyses related to marine stability, and more.

This milestone follows Aselsan’s first live fire test of its Göksur vertical launch system (VLS) from a Turkish Navy surface platform.
The test was conducted on 16 February 2025 from the TCG Beykoz vessel, off the coast of Sinop in northern Türkiye.
