전문가들 “현무-5, 북 지하 시설 파괴엔 효과적∙∙∙전술핵엔 크게 못 미쳐”

베넷 선임연구원은 “현무-5는 대부분의 지하 시설을 효과적으로 파괴할 수 있다”고 평가했습니다. 다만 “지하 80~100m 깊이에 위치한 시설의 경우, 출입구는 폐쇄할 수는 있어도 지하 시설 전체를 파괴하기는 어렵다”고 지적했습니다.
[녹취: 베넷 선임연구원] “If you use the Hyunmoo 5 against most underground facilities, it's going to destroy them. It's going to be very effective against them. But if you're talking about some deep underground facility, the Hyunmoo 5 would certainly close the entrance to that facility.”
이어 “정말 깊은 지하 시설은 재래식 정밀 무기로는 파괴할 수 없기 때문에 훨씬 더 강력한 효과를 발휘할 수 있는 핵무기가 필요하다”면서도 “그러나 그렇게 깊은 지하 벙커는 북한에 많지 않을 것이며, 많아야 5~10개 정도일 것”이라고 말했습니다.
또한 “핵무기, 미사일, 생화학무기 등을 보관하는 지하 시설을 파괴하려 할 때 현무-5는 매우 유용한 무기가 될 것”이라고 덧붙였습니다.
피터스 연구원은 “현무-5의 가장 효과적인 사용은 (무기고로) 의심되는 지하 터널 입구 몇 곳을 파괴하는 것”이라고 말했습니다. 북한이 미사일 등 주요 군사 자원을 수많은 지하 터널에 보관하고 있기 때문에, 비록 지하 벙커 자체를 파괴하지 못하더라도 출입구를 파괴해 무력화하는 데 현무-5가 매우 유용할 것이라는 설명입니다.
[녹취: 피터스 연구원] “What would be most effective would be to rubbleize in some of the suspected entry points to some of the adits. So these are, you know, the North Koreans have an incredible number of tunnels in which they keep key capabilities and activities inside of a lot of their missiles.”
지하 시설 탐지 정보 역량이 관건
전문가들은 북한과의 실제 전쟁 상황에서 현무-5는 북한의 핵∙미사일 등이 저장된 지하시설을 노릴 것이라며, 관건은 이런 시설을 특정할 수 있는 정보 역량이라고 말했습니다.
베넷 선임연구원은 “문제는 한국이 북한의 미사일이 저장된 위치를 파악할 수 있는 위성과 기타 정보 자산을 보유하고 있느냐”에 달려 있다고 설명했습니다.
[녹취: 베넷 선임연구원] “The challenge will be whether or not South Korea has the satellite and other intelligence to tell South Korea where all of those missiles are stored.”
한미연합사 작전참모를 역임한 데이비드 맥스웰 아태전략센터 부대표는 이날 VOA와의 전화 통화에서 “북한에는 지하 시설망이 광범위하게 구축돼 있다”면서 “모든 지하 시설을 파괴할 수 있는 무기는 만들 수 없기 때문에 특정 목표물을 노릴 정보력이 절대적으로 중요하다”고 강조했습니다.
따라서 “중요 목표물의 위치를 파악하기 위해 정보 분석이 필수적”이라고 지적했습니다. 지휘 통제, 정보 자산, 발사 시스템 등 주요 목표물을 정확히 타격하기 위해선 광범위한 정찰과 감시가 필요하다는 설명입니다.
[녹취: 맥스웰 부대표] “So it's critical that intelligence analysis be conducted to determine where the high value targets are. The high value targets for command and control leadership for their intelligence, their firing systems, their storage sites all of those high value targets require extensive intelligence, a reconnaissance and surveillance to determine those locations so that they can be attacked accurately with accurate targeting with these weapons systems.”
맥스웰 부대표는 “따라서 현무-5 같은 무기 체계를 운용할 때 가장 중요한 요소는 효과적인 목표물 조준에 필요한 정보 확보”라고 강조했습니다.

For the FFEP and new facility at Natanz at an estimated 80-100 meters, possibly with layers of reinforced concrete, even the GBU-57/B would likely require multiple impacts at the same aiming point to have a good chance of penetrating the facility. Strikes with lesser penetrating weapons could still collapse entry and exit tunnels given good intelligence about their exact layout and location (with some information already available in open-source satellite imagery analysis). However, unless a longer-term campaign were mounted with regular follow-up strikes, efforts to dig down to the facilities to re-establish access and supplies would likely begin almost immediately.
