Our Best Friend
가장 친한 친구
Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become

When I was twelve years old our family moved to a town in the desert. After gym classes in
the hot air at my new school, we rushed for the drinking fountain.
내가 열두 살 때 우리 가족은 사막에 있는 한 도시로 이사했습니다. 새 학교에서 무더운 날씨의 체육시간이
끝나고 우리는 물을 마시러 수돗가로 달려갔습니다.
Being skinny and young for my grade, I sometimes got pushed out of the way while waiting in line.
같은 학년 친구들보다 마르고 어렸던 나는 줄에서 종종 밀려나곤 했습니다.
One day my friend Jose, who was big and strong for his age, saw this happening. He stepped in
and stuck out a strong arm to clear my way.
어느 날 나이에 비해 덩치가 크고 힘이 센 친구 호세가 이런 모습을 보았습니다. 그는 다가와 힘센 팔을 뻗어서
내 길을 만들어주고는,
“Hey!” he exclaimed, “You let Banks get a drink first!” I never had trouble at the drinking fountain
again.
“이봐! 너희들, 뱅크스가 먼저 물 먹게 해!” 하고 소리쳤습니다. 그 후로 나는 물을 마시는데 아무런 어려움이
없었습니다.
Jesus understood what it was like to face the ultimate unkindness of others. The Bible tells us,
“He was despised and rejected by mankind”(Isa. 53:3). But Jesus was not just a victim of suffering,
He also became our advocate.
예수님은 다른 사람들로부터 극심한 모욕을 당하는 것이 어떤 것인지를 아셨습니다. 성경은 “그는 멸시를 받아
사람들에게 버림받았다”(사 53:3)라고 말합니다. 하지만 예수님은 고통의 희생양이 되셨을 뿐 아니라 우리의
중재자도 되어주셨습니다.
By giving His life, Jesus opened a “new and living way” for us to enter into a relationship with God
(Heb. 10:20).
예수님은 생명을 내어주심으로 우리에게 하나님과의 관계를 맺을 수 있는 “새로운 삶의 길”을 열어주셨습니다
(히 10:20).
He did for us what we could never do for ourselves, offering us the free gift of salvation when we
repent of our sins and trust in Him.
주님은 우리를 위해 우리 스스로는 결코 할 수 없는 일을 해주셔서, 우리 죄를 회개하고 주님을 신뢰할 때
우리에게 값없이 구원의 선물을 주십니다.
Jesus is the best friend we could ever have. He said, “Whoever comes to me I will never drive away”
(John 6:37).
예수님은 우리가 사귈 수 있는 가장 좋은 친구입니다. 주님은 “내게 오는 자는 내가 결코 내쫓지 아니하리라”
(요 6:37)라고 말씀하셨습니다.
Others may hold us at arm’s length or even push us away, but God has opened His arms to us

다른 사람들은 우리와 거리를 두거나 심지어는 밀쳐내 버리기도 하지만, 하나님은 십자가를 통해 우리에게
팔을 벌려주셨습니다. 우리 구주는 얼마나 강한 분이신지요!

God’s free gift to us cost Him dearly.
하나님은 우리에게 값없이 선물을 주시려고 엄청난 대가를 치르셨다.
