찬양을 작곡한다는 것은 아마 모든 하나님의 자녀들의 소망일 것입니다.
고전 14:26에도 초대교인들은 "각각 찬송시"를 써서 모여 예배드릴 것을 명하고 있습니다.
부족한 제가 오는 6월 14일부터 약 한 달 여 정도 세미너리에서 작곡법 강의를 맡게 되었습니다.
세미너리에서 2008년부터 음악이론 강의를 해오고 있지만 여기서 작곡을 가르치는 것은 처음이라 특별히 감사한 마음입니다.
제목은 20th century composition 이라서 오해의 여지가 있지만 넓은 의미로는 사실 20세기에 쓰여지는 모든 음악이 20세기음악입니다. 특히 이번 강의는 교회에서 복음성가, 합창, 기악 찬양 등을 쓰고 싶은 분들을 돕도록 초점이 맞춰질 것입니다.
이미 몇몇 곡들을 써놓고도 자신이 없어 내놓지 못하는 분들, 또 보다 체계적으로 작곡을 배우고 싶은 분들이 도움을 받게 될 것입니다. 또한 작곡 자체가 목적이 아니더라도 음악을 보다 깊이 이해하고 공부하고 싶은 분들에게 좋은 기회가 될 것입니다.
왜냐하면 작곡공부는 음악을 가장 깊이 이해하는 길이니까요.
강의는 영어로 진행되지만 한국어 도움이 필요한 경우는 한국어로도 도움을 드릴 예정이므로 영어가 부족한 학생도 너무 걱정하지 않아도 됩니다. 강의는 3시간씩 일곱 번에 걸쳐 진행되며 3시간 중 첫 한 시간은 강의, 나머지는 학생 작품 분석 및 렛슨으로 진행될 것입니다. 각각 찬송시로 주님을 찬양하고 싶은 여러 학생들의 관심을 부탁드립니다.

20th century composition class

1) It is not an atonal music composition class, though at the end of
the class some contemporary music style will be analyzed and
immitated.
2) In a broad sense, all music style that is available today is
considered as 20th c. music.
3) Focus will be on the practical compositional technique which is
common to almost all musical styles, as we survey a broad spectrum of
various pieces.
4) If you want to compose a piece in a certain style, you'll get help.
5) Students are encouraged to compose some songs or music that can be
sung or played in their church.
6) Further, they are encouraged to attempt a rather bigger format like
piano sonata, or even orchestral work.
7) Not too many students are welcome, for it is somehow like private
lesson with corporate lecture.
8) Now that it will last seven weeks, you will have enough time to
compose music you want to compose, if you dedicate your time to this
class.
9) Seven three-hour session will be offered, each of which will
consist of one-hour lecture on a special theme and two-hour review of
students' works.
10) Finale user is preferred, though some basic Finale technique will be taught.
