For my WWOOF trip to Jeju-do I stayed with Mr. and Mrs. Kim of Amjasoon Farm. After having worked in America for more than twenty years, the Kims returned home to Korea and now grow tangerines as a hobby. The Kims belong to a group of six other farmers who grow organic produce on Jeju Island.
During my stay I worked with Mr. Kim and also at his group member Mr. Lee’s farm. With Mr. Kim I helped peel and slice tangerines for juice, jam, and fermented tangerine tea. At the tangerine grove we spent a day putting manure around the tangerine trees. It was very beautiful and peaceful in the tangerine grove! In the afternoons Mr. Kim was kind enough to take me to several tourist sites near his farm.
With Mr. Lee and his parents I also had a great time. Mr. Lee is a young farmer who grows hallabongs and vegetables. In addition to watering the hallabongs, I helped harvest spinach and a-uk greens, and cut ogapi branches.
If you wwoof at Amjasoon Farm, be prepared to cook some of your meals at the guesthouse.
