Prime minister Keir Starmer has told a news conference he will fight back if technology companies resist social media apps banย  intended to protect children from harmful contents and excessiva screen time .

he says he is not prepared to compromise on the safety and happiness of our children.ย

The move makes the UK part of a growing global movement to tighten online safety for children.

Australia, Canada, Brazil and Indonesia have introduced legislation or requirements for children's access to social media , whereas France, Spain, Denmark, Thailandย  and South Korea are among others studying or developing similar approaches.ย ย

I'm Charles de Ledesma.
