100% Korean? No, then what %?

I have lived in Calif ever since I was 15 years old.  And I often ask myself if I know enough about Korea and have enough Korean personality to go back to my birth place and live there.  Not sure.  I am 60 years old now and have spent 45 years in a foreign land.  So I am 75% American and 25% Korean.  How accurate is that percentage?  Who knows.  In any case, I need to figure out if Korea is right for me when I retire.  When I visited Seoul, Korea a few times, some Koreans were so rude.  They see that I speak the language but I ask "stupid" questions.  Then I run into some nice Koreans and I appreciate their help.  Not 100% sold on moving back now.  Just thinking about it.  Also, I cannot write in Korean that well so please be understanding.  And I hate playing mind games with people because I am not good at it and I am too straight forward.  I will write more about myself as time goes.  Thanks.  Michael Y.

  • 작성자JUNO | 작성시간 26.06.19 I am 61 years old and have been living in the United States since I was 16.
    I think the reason why I want to go back to Korea is because of my identity.
    But I can't leave America completely because of my child and my SSA.
    That's the only reason for my hesitation.
    I'm not afraid of rude people or people who play psychological games.
    As you said, there are many good people.
    Tsmy personal opinion. JAY

    there is no single "right answer" in life;
    you have to experience different ways of living
    and decide for yourself.
    In my opinion,
    It takes great courage to do that.
  • 작성자미국 아이다호 | 작성시간 26.06.19 Hello Michael, first of all, try to use Korean, you may get help from AI easily nowadays. To tell you of my personal story; when I had my daughter with Japanese-American husband, I thought she’s 50% American and 50% Korean. Soon I changed my mind that I need raise her to be 100% Korean and 100% American. Now she’s 38, very successful grownups. I did the right thing.
    So why not thinking or trying to be 100% Korean and 100% American?
    Regarding where you live is totally up to your situation. Having two teenagers and wife, you need think about a lot of considerations. Financially and emotionally.
  • 작성자미국 아이다호 | 작성시간 26.06.19 Not only for yourself, need consider for your kids’ future and your wife’s as well. You can visit, don’t have to live etc.
  • 작성자MichaelY 작성자 본인 여부 작성자 | 작성시간 26.06.19 Thank you for your comments/feedback. I think we are all in the same (or similar) boat: wife and kids, social security, retirement, etc. By the way, writing in Korean for me is too difficult and too slow. I will try it in the future, not now. Sorry. Michael Y.
