| 부활 시기 동안의 미사 독서는 「사도행전」이 계속됩니다. 이 부활 시기 내내 봉독되는 「사도행전」을 꼭 전체적으로 묵상해 보라는, 신학생 시절 은사 신부님의 당부를 기억합니다. 교회가 어떻게 자신의 '얼굴'을 여러 시험대를 거치며 찾아갔는지를 「사도행전」이 보여 준다는 말씀이 인상적이었습니다.
사실 우리는 「사도행전」에 나오는, 교회 생활의 이상이자 원형인 초대 교회의 모습을 본받으라는 이야기를 자주 듣습니다. 그런데 이 교회의 모습이 언제나 이상적이고 조화롭지는 않습니다. 모든 것을 공유하는 초대 공동체의 삶이나, 스테파노와 같은 순교자의 모습, 베드로 사도와 바오로 사도의 놀라운 활동처럼 빛나는 부분들도 있지만, 시행착오와 파당 짓기, 속 좁은 반목들도 등장합니다. 베드로 사도에게 여러 어려움을 주었던 유다계 그리스도인들과 이방 그리스도인들 사이의 갈등이 그 대표적인 보기일 것입니다.
가만히 생각해 보면, 한 개인도 꾸며 대는 것이나 흉내 내는 것을 넘어 참으로 성숙한 자기 본연의 '얼굴'을 지니려면 시련과 과오라는 아픈 시기를 겪어야 합니다. 겸손한 인내와 용기 있는 희망으로 부정적 체험에서 교훈을 배우고 올바른 길을 체득해 가야 합니다. 초대 교회 역시 그러한 과정을 겪었다는 점을 잊지 말아야 합니다. 「사도행전」을 읽으면 읽을수록 찬란한 시간만이 아니라 교회가 겪은 갈등과 혼돈의 시간 역시 우리에게 큰 영감을 준다는 것을 실감합니다. 오늘날의 우리 교회 역시 자신의 본디 '얼굴'을 찾는 데 그러한 과정이 면제되지 않기 때문일 것입니다.
불목, 탐욕, 편견, 퇴행, 태만, 질투 같은 부끄러운 모습을 교회 안에서 자주 보는 것은 우리에게 고통이지만, 진정한 의미의 '교회의 얼굴'을 발견할 수 있게 이끄는 소중한 계기일지도 모르겠습니다. 무엇보다 교회 공동체는 늘 하느님 나라를 향한 순례의 여정에 있다는 점을 잊지 않아야겠습니다. |
| 베드로는 환시에서 자신이 부정한 음식으로 여기는 것을 주님께서 먹으라고 하시는 소리를 듣습니다. 그는 자신의 이러한 체험을 예루살렘 교회에 보고하며 다른 민족의 그리스도인들에게도 그리스도를 믿음으로써 생명의 길이 열렸음을 깨닫게 합니다(제1독서). 착한 목자는 양들을 위하여 자기 목숨을 내놓습니다. 그는 자신의 양들을 알고, 양들도 목자를 잘 압니다. 착한 목자인 예수님께서는 스스로 목숨을 내놓으실 권한과 다시 얻으실 권한이 있습니다. 이것이 하느님 아버지에게서 받은 권한입니다(복음). |

Lectionary: 279 The Apostles and the brothers who were in Judea
heard that the Gentiles too had accepted the word of God.
So when Peter went up to Jerusalem
the circumcised believers confronted him, saying,
‘You entered the house of uncircumcised people and ate with them.”
Peter began and explained it to them step by step, saying,
“I was at prayer in the city of Joppa
when in a trance I had a vision,
something resembling a large sheet coming down,
lowered from the sky by its four corners, and it came to me.
Looking intently into it,
I observed and saw the four-legged animals of the earth,
the wild beasts, the reptiles, and the birds of the sky.
I also heard a voice say to me, ‘Get up, Peter. Slaughter and eat.’
But I said, ‘Certainly not, sir,
because nothing profane or unclean has ever entered my mouth.’
But a second time a voice from heaven answered,
‘What God has made clean, you are not to call profane.’
This happened three times,
and then everything was drawn up again into the sky.
Just then three men appeared at the house where we were,
who had been sent to me from Caesarea.
The Spirit told me to accompany them without discriminating.
These six brothers also went with me,
and we entered the man’s house.
He related to us how he had seen the angel standing in his house, saying,
‘Send someone to Joppa and summon Simon, who is called Peter,
who will speak words to you
by which you and all your household will be saved.’
As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them
as it had upon us at the beginning,
and I remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said,
‘John baptized with water
but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’
If then God gave them the same gift he gave to us
when we came to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ,
who was I to be able to hinder God?”
When they heard this,
they stopped objecting and glorified God, saying,
“God has then granted life-giving repentance to the Gentiles too.”

Jesus said:
“I am the good shepherd.
A good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
A hired man, who is not a shepherd
and whose sheep are not his own,
sees a wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away,
and the wolf catches and scatters them.
This is because he works for pay and has no concern for the sheep.
I am the good shepherd,
and I know mine and mine know me,
just as the Father knows me and I know the Father;
and I will lay down my life for the sheep.
I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold.
These also I must lead, and they will hear my voice,
and there will be one flock, one shepherd.
This is why the Father loves me,
because I lay down my life in order to take it up again.
No one takes it from me, but I lay it down on my own.
I have power to lay it down, and power to take it up again.
This command I have received from my Father.”
