푸치니의 오페라 'La Rondine(제비)'는 제비처럼
꿈과 사랑이 가득한 남쪽나라로 가서 진정한 사랑을 찾게 되지만,
결국에는 다시 본래의 모습으로 되돌아오는
여인의 이야기를 다룬 오페라다.
오페라로선 별로 성공하지 못한 작품이지만
낭만적인 내용들이 흥미를 돋구는데,
스타일로 보아서는 오히려 오페레타에 가까운 작품이라 하겠다.
영화 '전망 좋은 방(A room with a view, 1986)'에서 푸치니의 오페라
쟈니스키키의 아리아와 같이 들을 수 있는 아름다운 아리아가
이 오페라에서 가장 유명한 ‘도레타의 꿈’이다.
마그다는 부유한 은행가 람발도의 정부이다.
파리, 마그다의 살롱에서 람발도의 친구들과 마그다의 친구들이
이야기를 나누며 파티를 즐기고 있다.
그때 시인 프루니에가 파리에서 로맨틱한 사랑이 다시 유행하고 있다며
도레타의 꿈에 관한 아직 다 작곡하지 못한 노래를
피아노 앞에 앉아 들려주자 그 노래를 듣고 있던 마그다가
자신이 생각한 뒷부분을 즉흥적으로 부른다.
가난한 젊은 학생을 사랑하게 되어 왕의 청혼을 거절한
도레타의 사랑에 관한 Chi il bel sogno di Doretta....
꿈같은 분위기의 아름다운 아리아다.
