RM, the leader of K-pop supergroup BTS, has been named the first global ambassador of the National Museum of Korea to help promote the country's cultural heritage around the world, the museum said Saturday.

국립박물관은 방탄소년단 리더 RM을 한국의 문화유산을 세계에 알리는 데 기여할 첫 번째 글로벌 홍보대사로 임명했다고 토요일 발표했다.

The singer, whose real name is Kim Nam-joon, was named in recognition of his longstanding interest in Korean traditional culture and art, as well as his efforts to support the preservation of cultural heritage, according to the museum.

본명 김남준인 RM은 한국 전통문화와 예술에 대한 오랜 관심과 문화유산 보존을 위한 노력에 대한 공로를 인정받아 이번 임명되었다고 박물관 측은 밝혔다.

RM donated 100 million won ($65,231) each in 2021 and 2022 to the Overseas Korean Cultural Heritage Foundation to support the preservation and restoration of Korean cultural assets abroad.

RM은 해외 한국문화유산재단에 2021년과 2022년에 각각 1억 원(약 6만 5231달러)을 기부하여 해외 한국문화유산의 보존 및 복원을 지원했다.

An avid art collector, RM is set to hold a special exhibition of works from his personal collection at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art in October.

열렬한 예술품 수집가인 RM은 오는 10월 샌프란시스코 현대미술관에서 개인 소장품 특별전을 개최할 예정이다.

The singer will participate in various promotional activities for the museum and help introduce Korean history and traditional culture to global audiences.

또한, 그는 미술관 홍보 활동에 참여하여 한국의 역사와 전통 문화를 세계 관객들에게 알리는 데 기여할 것이다.

"I will do my best to help more people appreciate the beauty and value of our cultural heritage," RM said.

RM은 "더 많은 사람들이 우리 문화유산의 아름다움과 가치를 알아줄 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다"고 밝혔다.

You Hong-june, director of the museum, expressed hope that RM would help raise the museum's global profile. "It is meaningful to share the beauty of our cultural heritage with the world together with RM."

유홍준 미술관장은 RM의 참여로 미술관의 국제적 위상이 높아지기를 기대한다며, "RM과 함께 우리 문화유산의 아름다움을 세계와 나누는 것은 매우 의미 있는 일이다"라고 말했다.
