어느덧 무더운 여름이 지나고 가을이 시작되는 9월이 왔습니다. 이 곡 '9월의 노래 (September Song)'은 제가 젊었을 때 매우 인상 깊게 들었던 곡입니다. 그래서 후에 악보를 찾아 서튼 솜씨로 주 멜로디 부분만 합창곡 (혼성 4부)로 편곡을 시도했던 생각이 납니다.
이 곡을 간단히 소개하자면, 1951년도 미국영화 여수(旅愁)의 (원제 September Affair, 조셉 코튼, 존 폰테인 주연) 주제가로 인생 철학적인 노래입니다. 원래 1938년의 뮤지컬 니카보커 홀리데이 (Knikerbocker Holiday (1930)의 넘버로 주연인 월터 휴스턴이 불러 히트한 것을 리바이벌하여 플래터즈, 토니 베넷, 프랭크 시나트라, 자니 마티스, 엘라 피처럴드, 패티 페이지, 냇킹 콜, 팻 분, 만토바니 악단, 사라 본 등이 다투어 불렀습니다.

사람은 장난삼아 기다리고 있는 시간을 잃어버려요.
정말 귀중한 나날인데,
