누렸던 미국의 여자 육상선수 플로렌스 그리피스 조이너 (Florence Griffith-Joyner) 
1959년 12월 21일 태어나 1998년 9월 21일 수면중 지병인 간질발작으로 세상을 떠났다. 
별명 플로조(Flo Jo)로 알려진 그녀는 1988년 미국 올림픽 선발대회 100m 예선에서 
10.49초 세계기록을 세우면서 세계를 놀라게 하였다. 1988년 서울올림픽 200m 결선에서 
세운 21.34초 세계기록과 더불어 24년이 넘도록 불멸의 기록으로 남아있다.
그녀의 다이나믹한 동작과 화려한 스타일로 1980년대후반 국제육상의 스타가 되었다.
1989년에 은퇴한 뒤에는 불우한 어린이를 위한 자선사업과 체육활동을 하였으며 
1995년 명예전당에 이름이 올랐다. 로스앤젤레스 조던 다운스 공동 주택단지 에서
11남매의 7번째로 태어나 역경속에 성장한 그리피스 조이너는 "다리가 없는 사람을 
보기 전에는 날마다 운동화를 사달라고 부모에게 떼를 썼다" 고 말했다. 
세단 뛰기 선수 앨 조이너의 부인이며, 7종 경기와 멀리 뛰기 선수 재키 조이너-커시의 
시누이이다. 서울 올림픽에서 여자 100m, 200m, 400m계주에 우승 삼관왕에 올랐으며, 
1600m계주에서는 준우승 은메달을 차지했다. 
화려한 외모와 치장으로 실력못지않은 미모와 미적감각을 뽐내어 각국언론의 주목을 
받았다. 이 때 얻은 별명이 “ 달리는 패션모델 ” 이었다.
그녀가 남긴 어록 하나,  "최고가 되기 위해서는 무엇을 해야 하는가?
집중력을 키우고, 끊임없이 연습하며, 꿈(목표)을 가져야 한다."

Tribute To Florence Griffith Joyner
 52 years ago today, Florence Griffith-Joyner (Flo-Jo) the greatest 
 female sprinter of all-time was born. Quick fact, Flo-Jo set the still 
 standing current world records in 100m (10.49s) and 200m (21.34s) 
 which both are widely regarded as the "most impossible world 
 records" ever created in the World of sports. At the 1988 Olympics 
 in Seoul, she won 3 gold medals and one silver.
