It has been 4 years since my first poetry book was published.

With the birth of the first book, new love also came into my life. Trying to adjust to the new lifestyle, some days were filled with laughter and some with tears. Perhaps it also brought me out of the wishful thinking of forever remaining as a little child and forced me to finally grow up.

A little girl watches a squirrel, looking for a stash of food, digging out the soil of the flower bed with curiosity. But cruel reality tramples on the girl’s innocent heart and transforms it to a middle-aged woman who worries about the flowers being ruined and drives the squirrel away.

A middle-aged woman worries about preparing kimchi for the winter and also worries about the difficulty of driving in snow. In addition, her days are filled with looking after the family and doing the household chores; little time is left for her, even late at night. However, if she stops everything for a moment and listens to the sound of heart beats, she could discover the little girl still playing with the dream of fantasy at the corner of her heart.

Wings of imagination that a prince will come for me on a white horse folded long ago as time passed by while living with an ordinary man. But this doesn’t mean that the feeling of love has gone cold. It definitely doesn’t mean that you don’t love this ordinary man.

After all, true love transcends everything and always lives inside you, regardless of the situation and time. It’s just that the love can be seen as hot or cold depending on your inner eyes looking at that love.

Love cannot stay with you forever. Death, divorce, or break up, etc. whatever reason there might be, it must leave one day. Therefore, we need to make effort not to lose the love prematurely. There is no point of regretting later.

A wish for love to remain with me forever, isn’t that what the little girl, still breathing inside the middle-aged woman, wants after all?

My children were disappointed when my first poetry book was published as they couldn’t read Korean. So, I promised them that the following book would be translated into English.

Translating Korean poetry into English one was very difficult as I don’t have a formal education in writing. At some point, I was embarrassed at myself. I was overly confident just because I’ve been living in an English-speaking environment for more than 30 years. Anyway, I’ve worked very hard at translation, often referring to a dictionary, in order to keep the promise made to my children. As my second poetry book is about to be published, I would like to first thank my children, Andrew, Alexis, and Adrian. Because of them, I took on this new challenge and was able to succeed.

I also send tons of love to my first granddaughter, Mila, who brought much joy into my life this year. I wish that, maybe someday, I can publish a book filled with my love for Mila and the joy she brings me.

To my new husband who crossed the Pacific Ocean to be with me, I thank him for trying to adapt to and enduring the hardship of an immigrant’s life. I can tolerate the tiredness and physical hardship because the loneliness that stayed with me throughout my entire life has disappeared completely after he came into my life.

To Professor C. G. Kim who gave me assignments to translate English poetry into Korean, I thank him for continuous encouragement and undying support. At first, it seemed an impossible task, but it became possible once I started the translation, even if it was by force.

I also thank my publisher “Moonhak Chowul” for publishing this book on the 9th anniversary of my sister's death and wish all the success.

But most of all, I would like to thank God for giving me a tongue to speak, fingers to write, and as a bonus, a heart to love. Glory and praise to the Lord.
