그러므로 여호와께서 그 사랑하시는 자에게는 잠을 주시는도다
for he grants sleep to those he loves.
자식은 여호와의 주신 기업이요
Sons are a heritage from the LORD,
태의 열매는 그의 상급이로다
children a reward from him.
젊은 자의 자식은 장사의 수중의 화살 같으니
Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one's youth.
이것이 그 전통에 가득한 자는 복되도다
Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them.

As they were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed Him. And two blind men sitting by the road, hearing that Jesus was passing by, cried out, "Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!" The crowd sternly told them to be quiet, but they cried out all the more, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!" And Jesus stopped and called them, and said, "What do you want Me to do for you?" They said to Him, "Lord, we want our eyes to be opened." Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes; and immediately they regained their sight and followed Him. Matthew 20:29-34
나에게 이루시는 하나님의 언약 The Covenant of God to be fulfilled on Me
오늘 우리는 우리 신앙 여정의 최종목적지가 어디에 있어야 하는지 생각해 보겠습니다. 그것은 구속이라 하기도 하고 회복이라 하기도 합니다. 회복은 원래의 상태로 돌아가는 것입니다. 그것은 더 나은 상태로 가는 것과는 분명 다른 것입니다. 더 나은 상태라는 것은 끝도 없이 높아져야 하지만 원래의 상태로 가는 것은 처음이 온전했다는 믿음에 근거합니다. 하지만 이 상태는 우리 일생 중 한 번도 겪어 본 적이 없는 약속의 상태입니다.
본문에서는 다윗의 자손이라는 표현이 나옵니다. 이스라엘은 다윗이 다시 오시기를 기다렸습니다. 그것은 비단 소경들만의 고백이 아니었습니다. 아이들도 무리들도, 그리고 가나안 여인도 주님을 그렇게 불렀습니다. 심지어 주님을 다윗의 자손으로 믿지 않던 바리새인들조차도 다윗이 다시 오실 것을 기다렸습니다. 그 이유는 나라가 망한 후, 선지자들을 통해서 지속적으로 하나님께서 그 약속을 주신 때문입니다.
마태복음에는 주님을 아브라함과 다윗의 자손으로 기록합니다. 아브라함은 하나님의 언약을 받은 이로서, 그리고 다윗은 그 언약을 성취한 자로서 등장합니다. 하지만 물론 이 언약의 성취는 하나님의 주권적 역사였습니다. 이 약속의 성취는 이루어진 후 두 세대를 가지 못하고 멸망하고 맙니다. 이는 능력의 부족을 말하는 것이 아니라 약속의 실체가 그 땅에 있지 않음을 보여줍니다.
그 이후 멸망한 이스라엘에게 지속적으로 상기시키신 약속은 아브라함이 아닌 다윗을 보내주신다는 것이었습니다. 즉 언약은 여전히 유효하며 그 성취의 시기가 남아 있다는 뜻입니다. 주께서 2000년 전에 오셨을 때 바로 이 약속의 성취를 사람들은 떠올렸습니다. 그리고 주를 향해 다윗의 자손이라 불렀습니다. 하지만 주님은 이렇게 되 물으셨습니다.
시편에 다윗이 친히 말하였으되 주께서 내 주께 이르시되 내가 네 원수를 네 발의 발등상으로 둘 때까지 내 우편에 앉았으라 하셨도다 하였느니라 그런즉 다윗이 그리스도를 주라 칭하였으니 어찌 그의 자손이 되겠느뇨 하시니라 누가복음 20:42-44
그리고 성경은 주님을 가리켜 다윗의 뿌리이며 또 자손이라 밝혔습니다.
나 예수는 교회들을 위하여 내 사자를 보내어 이것들을 너희에게 증거하게 하였노라 나는 다윗의 뿌리요 자손이니 곧 광명한 새벽별이라 하시더라 요한계시록 22:16
여기서 우리는 익숙한 예언 한 구절을 기억합니다. 이사야에 이르기를
이새의 줄기에서 한 싹이 나며 그 뿌리에서 한 가지가 나서 결실할 것이요 이사야 11:1
이새는 다윗의 아버지입니다. 즉 그의 뿌리입니다. 그런데 이새의 뿌리라 하면 결국 이 언약의 성취가 하나님에게서 이루어진다는 의미가 됩니다. 주님은 바로 언약의 주체이신 하나님이시면서 동시에 언약 성취의 역할을 담당했던 다윗의 자손으로 이 땅에 계셨던 것입니다.
그런데 오늘 본문에서 다윗의 자손을 부른 소경들의 경우 우리가 잘 아는 실로암에 가서 씻고 본 소경은 다윗의 자손을 부른 기록이 없습니다. 대신 그가 눈을 떴을 때 주께서 그에게 찾아가 인자를 믿느냐 하셨습니다. 여기 인자에는 바로 다윗의 뿌리와 자손의 의미가 모두 담겨 있습니다. 그리고 이 인자에 대한 언약과 예언이 오늘을 살아가는 우리에게도 여전히 유효한 것으로 남아 있습니다.
인자는 누구입니까? 주와 연합한 누구에게나 주님은 말씀하십니다. 너 자신 아닌 너 자신이 2000년 전 주님 아닌 주님과 연합하여 이룬 한 인격, 그가 오실 때 모든 것을 회복하시리라. 이것이 오늘날 역사하시는 하나님의 언약의 성취입니다. 언약은 내가 이루는 것이 아니라 내게 이루어지는 것입니다.
Today we're going to think about where the final destination of our faith journey should be. It's called restraint or recovery. Recovery is about going back to where you were. It's definitely different than going back to where you were. Better conditions should be higher endlessly, but going back to where you were is based on the belief that the beginning was intact. But this is a state of promise that we have never experienced in our lifetime.
In the text, there is an expression called the descendants of David. Israel waited for David to come again. It was not just a confession made by the small-minded people. That's what the children, the crowd, and the Canaanite woman called the Lord. Even the Pharisees, who didn't believe the Lord as David's descendants, waited for David to come again. This is because after the country's collapse, God constantly gave them that promise through the prophets.
In the Gospel of Matthew, the Lord is recorded as a descendant of Abraham and David. Abraham appears as the recipient of God's covenant, and David appears as the recipient of that covenant. But of course, the achievement of this covenant was God's sovereign history. After two generations, this promise's accomplishment will be destroyed. This does not refer to a lack of ability, but shows that the reality of the promise is not in the land.
The promise to Israel, which has since fallen, has been to let David go, not Abraham. That is, the covenant is still in effect and there is a period of achievement left. When the LORD came 2,000 years ago, they remembered the achievement of this promise. And they called him the descendants of David. But the LORD asked.
"For David himself says in the book of Psalms, 'THE LORD SAID TO MY LORD, "SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND, UNTIL I MAKE YOUR ENEMIES A FOOTSTOOL FOR YOUR FEET."' "Therefore David calls Him 'Lord,' and how is He his son?" Luke 20:42-44
And the Bible refers to the Lord as the root and descendant of David.
"I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things for the churches I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star." Revelation 22:16
And here we remember a familiar line of prophecy, from Isaiah
Then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse, And a branch from his roots will bear fruit. Isaiah 11:1
This bird is David's father. In other words, it is his root. However, the root of this bird means that God ultimately accomplishes the achievement of this covenant. The Lord was a descendant of David, who was the subject of the covenant and also played a role in the achievement of the covenant.
However, in the case of the small police officers who called the descendants of David in today's text, there is no record of them calling the descendants of David. Instead, when he opened his eyes, the Lord went to him and asked if he believed in the Son. The Son of Man here contains both David's roots and the meaning of his descendants. And the covenant and prophecy about this Son still remain valid for those of us living today.
Who is the Son of Man? To anyone who is united with the Lord, the Lord says, "You, not yourself, will restore the one character that you have achieved in union with the Lord, not you, 2,000 years ago, when he comes. This is the achievement of the covenant of God that is in history today. The covenant is not to be fulfilled by me, but on me.
