Yesterday, I went to the bank to open an account because I needed to receive money from my parents. Since Korean banks are usually open from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM and are closed on Saturdays, I went straight there right after class.
Upon entering the bank, I pulled a number ticket first. A Korean friend had taught me, "In Korea, there are number tickets, so don’t stand in line—just grab a ticket first." After a short wait, it was my turn.
저는 어제 은행에 가서 통장을 만들었습니다.
부모님께서 보내주시는 돈을 받아야 하기 때문이었습니다.
한국의 은행은 보통 9시부터 오후 4시까지 문을 열고
토요일에는 문을 열지 않아서 수업이 끝나고 바로 갔습니다.
저는 은행에 들어가서 먼저 번호표를 뽑았습니다.
"한국에는 번호표가 있으니까
줄을 서지 말고 번호표부터 뽑으세요" 하고
한국 친구가 가르쳐 줬기 때문입니다.
잠시 후에 제 순서가 됐습니다.
I went to the counter and told the bank clerk,
"I’m here to open a bank account," and they gave me an application form.
After filling out my name and address and signing the form, I submitted it along with my Alien Registration Card (ARC) and a Certificate of Enrollment.
I also applied for a debit card and internet banking services at the same time.
The clerk told me, "Please do not use your date of birth or phone number when creating your password,"
so it was a bit difficult to come up with one.
After waiting for a short while,
I received my bankbook from the clerk.
I then called my parents to give them my account number.
It had been inconvenient not having a bankbook,
but now I think I’ll be able to use the bank much more easily.
창구로 가서 은행 직원에게 "통장을 만들러 왔어요." 하고 말하니까
신청서를 줬습니다. 거기에 이름과 주소 등을 쓰고 서명한 후에
외국인 등록증과 재학 증명서를 함께 냈습니다.
저는 카드와 인터넷 뱅킹 서비스도 같이 신청했습니다.
직원이 "비밀번호를 만들 때 생년월일과 전화번호를 사용하지 마세요" 하고 말해서 비밀번호를 만들기가 조금 어려웠습니다.
조금 기다린 후에 직원에게서 통장을 받았습니다.
저는 부모님께 전화로 계좌 번호를 말씀드렸습니다.
통장이 없어서 불편했는데 이제 은행을 편리하게 이용할 것 같습니다.
