History
"Fillmore, a sleepy little town nestled in the upper reaches of the Santa Clara River Valley, typifies an idealistic aspect of life that is rapidly disappearing from the California scene. Once a part of the gigantic Sespe or San Cayetano land grant, issued in 1833 by Governor Jose Figueroa to Antonio Carrillo, the area in and around present-day Fillmore is served by a parochial complex under the patronage of Saint Francis." –Delegation of the Roman Catholic Archdiocesan Board of Consultors, October 1971
