안드로메다자리(Andromeda Constellation, M31)는 그리스 신화의 안드로메다 공주 이름을 붙인 별자리이다. 이 별자리는 페가수스자리 부근의 북쪽 하늘에 자리잡고 있으며, 안드로메다 은하를 포함한다. 영어로 'Chained Maiden(또는 Chained lady: 사슬에 묶인 여자)'로 부르기도 한다.

우리 은하계와 약250만 광년(2.5 million light-years )으로 매우 가까이 있다,
유명한 안드로메다은하(M31)은 베가 별 북쪽에 있는 4등성 뉴(ν )별의 바로 옆에 있으며, 맑고 달이 뜨지 않는 밤에는 눈으로도 볼 수 있다. 쌍안경으로 보아도 장방형 모양인 빛의 얼룩처럼 조이고 중심이 밝다는 것을 알 수 있다. 안드로메다은하는 우리 은하계와 약250만 광년(2.5 million light-years )으로 매우 가까이 있고, 북반구에서는 눈으로 볼 수 있는 유일한 은하다. 이 은하는 지름이 약10만 광년, 4000억 개나 되는 별들이 모여있다. 1885년 이 은하에서 초신성이 폭발했는데 그 밝기가 은하 전체의 밝기와 맘먹었다고 한다.
또 안드로메다자리에는 M32와 M110은하도 있다.
안드로메다자리에서 가장 밝은 α별은 알페라츠(Alpheratz)라고 불린다. 이 별은 페가수스자리와 겹쳐지기도 했으며, '말의 배꼽'이라는 명칭이 있었다. 또한, 페가수스 δ별로 불리기도 하며, 페가수스자리의 α, β, γ 별과 함께 페가수스의 사각형을 이룬다.
안드로메다자리 β별은 미라흐(Mirach; 허리띠)라 부른다. 이 별은 250만 광년 떨어져 있으며, 2.1 등급의 밝기이다.
안드로메다자리 γ별은 알마크(Almach)라 부른다. 남쪽의 다리 끝에 해당된다. 이 별은 색깔이 대비되는 별들로 이루어진 아름다운 다중성이다.
안드로메다자리 υ별은 세 개의 확인된 행성을 갖고 있다. 이들은 각각 목성의 0.71 배, 2.11 배, 4.61 배의 무게를 갖는다.

Since ancient times, astronomers have looked up at the night sky and seen the Andromeda
galaxy 2.5 million light-years away. As the closest galaxy to our own, scientists have been
able to observe and scrutinize this giant spiral galaxy for millennia. By the 20th century,
astronomers realized that Andromeda was the Milky Way’s sister galaxy and was moving
towards us. In 4.5 billion years, it will even merge with our own to form a supergalaxy.
However, it seems astronomers were wrong about the Andromeda galaxy in one major
respect. According to recent study led by a team of French and Chinese astronomers, this
giant spiral galaxy formed from a major merger that occurred less than 3 billion years ago.
