주요국가들에서는 싱글컷이 되지 않았고, 유일하게 El Salvador(엘살바도르)와 Argentina(아르헨티나)에서만 스페인어 버전으로 싱글 발매가 이루어졌는데, 아마도 멜로디의 감정선과 한국인의 정서가 맞아떨어졌기 때문인지 유독 동아시아의 대한민국에서 오랜시간 많은 사랑을 받았다. (차트 성적으로 보면 2곡(The Winner Takes It all, Super Trouper)의 UK 차트 싱글 1위곡을 배출해 ABBA의 마지막 전성기를 알린 앨범이라 할 수 있겠다.) 제목으로 사용된 이탈리아어인 "Andante, Andante"는 음악 용어로 gently(부드럽게), slowly(천천히), at a walking pace(걷는 속도로)를 의미하는데, 작곡당시의 이 곡의 이름은 "Hold Me Close"였으나, 최종적으로는 제목을 바꿔 수록되었다. 사람에 따라 가사의 표면적인 의미인 음악가와 뮤즈간의 음악에 대한 내용이 될 수도 있고, 중의적인 의미로 연인간의 사랑과 밀애에 대한 내용이 될 수도 있기에 받아들이는 사람에 따라 이 곡을 부르는 의미가 뜨겁고 끈적끈적할 수 있는 곡이다. (이에 여기에 번역 가사는 올리지 않았습니다.) 스웨덴 역사상 전무후무할 뿐 아니라 인류 역사적으로도 순가락에 꼽을 정도로 크게 성공한 ABBA는 월드와이드 누적 판매량이 무려 3억7,000만장이라는 전설적인 기록을 가진 그룹인데, 그들이 활동한 시기가 아나로그 시기였던 1970년대였음을 생각해보면 정말 말도 안될 정도로 어마어마한 기록이라는 것을 알 수 있다. (이들이 전세계적으로 대성공을 하던 70년대초,중반의 대한민국은 서울에도 전화가 들어온 집이 30%남짓에 불과했고, 몇몇 도시를 제외한 지방도시나 시골은 비포장 도로에 전기조차 들어오지 않는 지역이 태반이었던 시절이었다.) 이 앨범은 ABBA의 최전성기를 지나 Björn Ulvaeus과 Agnetha Fältskog 커플이 이혼한 이후 나온 앨범이어서 이전보다 분위기가 조금 조용하고 어두워졌는데, 이듬해인1981년 발표된 여덟번째 앨범 <The Visitors>를 마지막으로 이들은 공식적인 해체를 발표하진 않았지만, 암묵적으로 1982년을 마지막으로 활동이 중단되다. 전 세계적으로 디스코 열풍도 서서히 끝나면서 전작에서 대다수를 차지하던 디스코 곡의 비중이 줄고 Super Trouper, Lay All Your Love On Me 정도를 제외하면 음악의 스타일도 많이 달라졌다. |
