bring과 비슷한 뜻을 가진borrow and lend, take

borrow and lend



① borrow는 take와 비슷한 것으로 '무엇을 누구로부터 빌려오다'라는 의미다. 따라서 사물을 목적어로 쓰고 from을 쓰고 사람을 쓴다(borrow + 사물+ from + 사람).

Can I borrow your bicycle?
Can I lend your bicycle?(*)

I borrowed a pound from my brother.



② lend는 give와 유사한 것으로 무엇을 누구에게 빌려주다라는 의미다. 따라서 전치사 to를 동반한다(lend + 사물 + to + 사람).

I lent my coat to Steve, and I never saw it again.
Lend me your comb for a minute, will you?


bring과 take



① 말하는 사람이나 듣는 사람에게로 움직일 때는 bring을 쓰고 다른 곳으로 움직일 때는 take를 쓴다.

This is a nice restaurant. Thanks for bringing me here.

Let's have another drink, and then I'll take you home.
Let's have another drink, and then I'll bring you home.(*)



② 말하는 사람이나 듣는 사람이 과거에 있었던 곳이나 앞으로 있을 곳으로의 움직임에는 bring을 쓴다.

I'll be arriving at the hotel about six o'clock. Can you bring the car
round at six-thirty?
Can you take the car to the garage tomorrow? I won't have time.
Can you bring the car to the garage tomorrow? I won't have time.(*)
