라오스에 와서 하루 쉬고 25일간 354km의 장정을 시작하게 되었다.
I took a rest for one day. Now I start Laos course, 354km, for 25 days.
일본 순례때 맹활약을 한 하라 츠네노리(原 恒德) 상이 라오스 국경에서 합류했다.
그는 자신의 일을 잠시 접고 로마까지 함께 순례하겠다는 커다란 결단을 내렸다.
이틀전 라오스 수도 비엔티안에 도착한 후 소형차량을 렌트해서 하루를 달려 국경까지 와주었다.
그는 이제 순례단의 스탭이다.
Mr. Hara Tsunenori, a Japanese, joined the pilgrimage at Laos border.
He played a very important role while I walked Japan course.
He quit his job, and decided to walk together with me for the rest of the pilgrimage until Rome.
He arrived at Vientian, the capital city of Laos, two days ago.
He rented a small car and drove to the border for one day.
From now on, he is an active staff of the pilgrimage.
첫 닷새의 원래계획은 하루에 15~19km을 걷는 것이었다.
그런데 주변 국립공원의 생태계와 경관이 답사가치가 크다고 한다.
걷는 기간을 4일로 단축하고 하루를 자동차로 답사하는 것으로 돌렸다.
According to the original plan, I was supposed to walk everyday 15~19 km for the first five days.
But I found out that the ecosystem and landscape around naitonal park are worth exploration.
Therefore, I shortened the walking time to 4 days, and added one day's exploration by car.

국경에서 출발
We started from the border.
일단 혼자 출발.
하라상은 차량을 운반하므로 함께 걷지 못할 때가 많다.
Mr. Hara drives a car, and he can't join walking from time to time.
Today I started walking alone.
여전히 더운 여름의 순례길에서 만난 맑은 하천에서 쉬고 있는데,
I was resting at a clear stream, in the midst of hot summer.
상류로부터 소들이 내려와서
A herd of cattle walked down the stream.
무심한듯 지척에서 지나간다.
마침 하라 상이 사진을 잘 찍었다.
The cattle passed by me without looking at me.
Mr. Hara caught the moment with a good picture.
이 강은 평화롭고 아름답다.
This river is peaceful and beautiful.
맑은 모래강이 낙동강 내성천 판박이다.
Clear water and well-devleoped sands reminds me of Naesungchun in Nakdong River.
이 한적한 맑은 강에 두 사람이 물놀이를 하고 있다.
I found two persons playing in clear and calm river.
마침 홀로 걸어가는 필자를 보길래 순을 흔들어 주었더니
그들도 손을 흔든다.
They looked at me, and I waved to them. They waved back to me.
가까이 가서 보니 아름다운 아가씨들이다.
사진을 찍어도 되느냐고 제스추어를 취했더니 적극적으로 포즈를 취해준다.
I approched to them, and found out that they are beatiful girls.
I asked for a picture by gesture. They said "yes" and posed for the picture.
둘이서 함께

이런 체험은 흔치 않을 터이다.
경계를 갖지 않고 무심한듯 자연스레 대해주는 모습은.
아마도 라오스니까 가능한 것인지도 모르겠다.
This was a very unusual experience.
The girls showed no precaution. They just greeted me, a stranger, with genuine mind.
This may be possible only in Laos, an untainted country.
감각적으로는 고산지대이면서 건조한 기후다.
This area is located in high mountains, and in dry climate.
오후의 출발점은 마을의 시장앞이다.
하라 상의 포착이 좋다.
The starting point of afternoon course was in front of a village market.
Mr. Hara takes very good pictures.
오후 5시반 경의 들판모습.
이 곳은 이모작은 아니라고 하는데, 비가 많이 내리지 않기 때문이라고 한다.
석양무렵인데도 햇살이 강한 것은 공기가 맑기 때문일 것이다.
I took the picture of scenery of the field at 5:30 in the afternoon.
The sunshine near the sun-set was very strong, probably because of clean air.
한참을 가다가 다리밑에서 멱을 감는 아이들을 발견했다.
While I walk, I found boys bath in the stream under a bridge.
아이들도 필자를 알아차리고 환호성이다.
They found me, and shouted.
어느 마을의 청년들이 모여있다가 필자를 발견하고는 우렁이 삶은 것은 함께 먹자고 한다.
맛있게 두 개를 먹었다.
At a small village, the young men found me and asked me to eat pond snail together.
I tried two pond snails. The taste was good.
해가 넘어가고 6시반이면 어두워진다.
After the sun set, it turns dark near 6:30 in the afternoon.
