나흘간 묵은 락사오의 호텔 (숙박료는 80만킵으로서 우리돈으로 약 1만1천원)
The Lak Sao hotel where we stayed for 4 days, was cheap.
The fee was only 800,000 Kib, equlvalent to 11,000 won in Korean currency.
아침 6시반. 호텔앞 식당에 탁발승이 왔다.
At 6:30 in the morning, Buddhist friars came to the hotel.
귀한 장면이다.
필자도 함께 합장.
Uncommon event.
I worshiped with joined hands.
오전순례의 들판

필자도 한참을 쉬었다.
I rested for a while at the shelter.
이 지역은 주택은 이렇게 2층높이의 목조로 짓고 지상부를 창고 등으로 활용하는 편이다.
This kind of two-story houses are common in this area.
The ground floor is used as warehouse.
관청옆에는 이런 지도가 있다.
1/1만 축척의 이 지도는 제목은 모르지만 컬러와 범례의 양식으로 보건대 토지이용규제도다.
미루어 보건대 토지이용의 관리가 엄격하게 이루어지고 있는 것 같다.
지금껏 보아왔던 아름다운 산하도 이렇게 관리되고 있기에 가능한 것일 터이다.

I can't read the title.
However, judging from the color and legends of the map, this shows the land-use regulation.
The land-use regulation seems to be very strict.
This strict regulation must have protected beautiful scenery.

아침에 보았던 탁발승들이 아마도 여기에서 수행하고 있는듯.
아직 사찰안 깊숙이 들어가보지 못했다.

오후일정에는 하라상도 모두 걷기로 했다.

그들은 이해가 빠르고 적극적이다.
그러다가 이번 순례의 일대 사건이 생겼다

And we encountered a big happening.
큰 길가에 있는 영어스쿨에서 많은 학생들이 있는 자리로 갑자기 소개가 된 것이다.
이미 어느 학생이 Peter라는 선생에게 우리의 순례모습을 전한 것을 듣고
이 선생이 기다렸다는 듯이 우리를 학생들앞에 세운 것이었다.
A teacher working at English school nearby invited us to the classroom.
Probably a student, whose name was Peter, told the teacher about our pilgrimage.
The teacher was waiting for us, and introduced us to the students.
필자는 평소에 한번도 해본 적이 없는 영어 강의를 갑자기 하게 되었다.
서툰 발음에도 아이들이 잘 들어주었다.
I have tried my first English lecture without any preparation.
The students understood my poor pronunciation.
마친 후 아이들이, 나누어준 리플렛에 싸인 해주기를 원하였다.
스타가 된 기분이다.
When the lecture was over, all of the students asked my signature on the leaflet I distributed.
I felt like a big star.
베트남 호치민대학에서 영어를 가르치기도 했던 이 선생은 순례마친후 저녁반에 와서 또 한차례 설명해주기를 기대하였다.
The teacher had worked as an English lecturer at Ho Chi Minh University.
He asked me to give second lecture in the evening.
이 지역의 경관은 한국의 설악산 분위기가 난다.
The scenery in this area look like Seorak mountain in Korea.
순례 마친 후 저녁반에 와서 다시 설명하였다.
이 반의 학생들은 고교생 나이들이 많아보였다.
낮반 아이들은 순례에 대해서 관심을 보였고 이 반은 핵발전소에 대해 많은 질문을 해왔다.
지구상에 450개이고 수명이 50년인데, 터지면 천년넘게 농사를 못짓는다고 하자 모두가 놀란다.
자신의 나라에 핵발전소가 없는 것과 이웃 베트남이 도입을 백지화했다는 대목에서는 환호를 지른다.
어떻게 없애느냐는 질문에, 필자는 시작은 우리가 하지만 끝막음은 여러분들이 해야한다고 했다.
갑자기 이들의 어깨가 무거워졌을지 모르겠다.
After the walking is over, I tried my second lecture in the evening.
The students in the daytime lecture showed interest about pilgrimage.
But the high shcool students in the evening lecture asked many questions about nuclear power plants. I explained that there 450 nuclear power plants, and if one of them explode by accident, you can not cultivate crops for 1000 years. They all surprised at my explanation. When I said "There are no nuclear power plants in Laos. Vietnam decided not to introduce nuclear power plants fortunately" they all shouted out. One student asked me "How can we abolish the nuclear power plants?" I said "The construction of nuclear power plants was started by our generation, but the stop of the plants is the duty of next generation like you." They may have felt deep responsibilities.

이 선생은 장기간 순례의 지원시스템에 대해 많은 관심을 보였다.

그의 부모는 맛있는 저녁식사를 대접해주었다.
His parents treated us nice supper.
