오늘 불교8대성지중 일곱번째로 쉬라바스티를 만난다.
Today I visit Shravisti, the 7th place out of 8 sacred places of Buddhists.
출발지에서의 인상적인 아이들
I met impressive children at the starting point.
호기심을 갖고 다가온 청년이다.
I met a curious youth who approached to me.
이슬람계통의 학교다.

평범한 가게앞에 놓여진 태양광패널.
전기줄 없는 곳에서는 휴대폰충전을 위한 필수품목이다.

It is an essential appliance for recharging smart phone battery at places where electricity is not supplied.

A road with shade is good for walking.
멀리 아이들이 환호성이다.
Children shout far away.
이윽고 쉬라바스티의 한국절집인 천축선원에 도착했다.
학교와 보건소도 동시에 운영하고 있다.
Finally I arrived at Cheonchukseonwon, a Korean temple at Shravasti.
The temple operates a school and a health center at the same time.
주지스님인 대인스님이 반갑게 맞아주신다.
하라상이 먼저 도착해서 순례길에 대한 설명을 드린 덕분이다.
The chief priest, Daein monk, greeted me.
Mr. Hara arrived ahead of me, and explained about pilgrimage.
공양시간을 훨씬 넘겨 도착해서, 짐을 풀고난 뒤 밖에서 식사를 하러가려던 필자의 팔을 붙잡으신다.
공양주 일을 하는 인도인에게 주문을 하러 가시더니 그가 자리에 없는지 손수 라면을 끓여서 내어오신다.
감동이다.
I arrived far later than dinner time. I laid down my baggage.
I was about to go out for supper. The chief monk grabbed my arm.
He went in the kitchen to order meal for me. The Indian chef was not in.
He cooked and served a bowl of ramyon by himself and gave it to me.
I was deeply moved.

잘 익은 총각김치와 함께 오랫만에 포식을 했다.
I ate a good dinner with kimch, pickled young raddish, after a long while.
오후에 하라상과 함께 찾아간 쉬라바스티의 모습들이다.
쉬라바스티’란 지명도 흥미롭다. 신라 때 ‘서라벌(徐羅伐)’로 음역됐고, 다시 지금의 ‘서울’이 됐다는 설이 있다.
이곳에 기원정사(祈園精舍)가 있었다. 부처님은 여기서 25년이나 지내셨다.
The appearances of Shravasti which I saw with Mr. Hara in the afternoon.
The name 'Shravasti' is interesting.
In Shinla dynasty, Shravasti was transliterated as Seorabeol which was changed to Seoul we use now. A temple which was called Kiwonjeongsa(祈園精舍) in Korean was located at Shravasti.
Buddha had lived at Kiwonjeongsa for 25 years.
부처님이 금강경을 위시한 수많은 경전을 설법하신 곳이기도 하다.
This is the place where Buddha preached numerous sermons including Diamond Sutra.
봄날을 맞아 여러 불교국가에서 스님들과 신도들이 참배와 불공을 드리고 있다.
The monks and the faithful came from various Buddhist countries.
They practice Buddhist ritual here.
사람이 많아지니 원숭이도 흥이 나는 것일까. 재미있게 노는 장면이 많다.
The monkeys may be interested in seeing many people. They enjoy playing.
날란다 대학의 분위기에 가깝다.
The atmosphere of this place looks like that of Nalanda college.
잠시 이 절집에 머물고 계신 허정스님의 안내로 천축선원 인근의 Orahjar 유적지로 갔다.
Following Heojeong monk, who stays at Korean temple for a while, I went to Orahjar relics nearby.
이 언덕에서 부처님은 이적을 행하신 후 모친을 만나러 도리천으로 올라가신다.
At this hill, Buddha performed a miracle.
Afterwards he went up to Doricheon to meet his mother.
이곳에 올라보니 온 사방이 평지다.
지구가 둥글다는 걸 곧바로 설명할 수 있다.
When I look down from this hill, I could see low plains in every direction.
I could understand with ease that the Earth is round like a sphere.
허정스님 설명에 의하면 부처님이 라즈기르(왕사성)에 계실 때 이곳을 한번도 와 보지 않은 상태에서 이 언덕을 지칭하면서 석달후 이곳에 가서 기적을 행하실 것을 예고하신 후 그대로 실행하셨다고 한다. 스님은, 당시 부처님이 이곳을 택한 이유를 보여주기 위해 몸소 우리를 안내한 것이다. 그 이유는 사방에서 이 언덕 정상위에서 벌어지는 일을 똑똑히 관찰할 수 있는 지형조건을 갖추었기 때문이다. 과연 부처님이 공중에 떠올라 불과 물을 동시에 내뿜는 모습을 만인에게 보여 주시어 이를 증거하도록 하셨다. 그리고 도리천에 올라가 모친을 만난후 상카사로 하림하셨다는 것이다. 뜻깊은 자리다.
According to the explanation of Heojeong monk, Buddha was staying at Razgir and he did not visit this place before. But he announced that he would come to this hill and perform a miracle. Afterwards he practiced his announcement. Heojeong monk led me to this place in order to show why Buddha selected this place as the site of miracle. The reason lies in the geopraphic location of this place. Since this hill is surrounded by low plains, the people could see the miracle more vividly. Buddha rose up to the sky, and shooted out water and fire at the same time. People could see and verifie the miracle. Afterwards Buddha went up to Doricheon and met his mother. Then he came down to Sankisa. This place has profound religious meaning.
