Karnal ~ Nilokheri

1. 어제 코스를 마치면서 아직 이 동네는 위험이 남아 있다고 감지했다.
그리하여 다음 사진의 Karnal 까지의 남은 22km 코스는 생략하되 Chandigarh에 가서 그만큼 걷기로 생각을 바꾸었다.
When I finished yesterday's course, I sensed that this village was still dangerous.
Therefore, I decided to skip the next course which is 22 km up to Karnal shown below.
Instead, I am going to add the same distance to Chandigarh course.
2. 그리하여 오늘부터는 국가간선축이라고 할 수 있는 New Delhi 에서 Chandigarh에 이르는 6차선 큰 길로 접어들어서 걷기로 했다.
From now on, I am going to walk national major road which connects New Delhi to Chandigarh.
The major road is six-lane road.
3. 아침일찍 숙소를 옮기면서 버스터미널로 가려고 오토릭샤를 기다리려고 있으니 이 마차가 필자앞에 멈춰서서 타라고 한다. 용감히 올라탔다.
Early in the morning, I was waiting for auto ricksha going to bus terminal. The driver of this auto ricksha gestures me to get on. I dared to ride on the auto ricksha.
4. 타고가는 모습을 셀피로 찍었다.
I took a selfie of auto ricksha.
5. 출발지인 Karnal 중심부의 버스터미널. 여기서는 Bus Stand 혹은 Bus Station 이라고 부른다.
Today's starting point was the bus terminal in the center of Karnal city.
In India, people call bus terminal as 'bus stand' or 'bus station'.
6. 큰 도시답게 큰 건물들이 멀리 보인다.
Since Karnal was a big city, I could see tall buildings far away.
7. 보도정비도 잘 되어 있다.
The sidewalk was well managed.
8. 노상찻집에서 짜이 한잔.
I ate a cup of chai at a street stall.
9. 오토바이가 보도를 침범하지 못하면서 차도로부터 흘러내리는 빗물이 바깥으로 흘러내릴 수 있도록 수평면으로 설계했다.
The sidewalk was designed to have barriers which prevent the water on car lane from entering sidewalk.
10. 고가도로 기둥의 벽화가 흰두교의 신들로 가득차 있다.
The wall paintings on pillars of overpass were all about Hindu god and goddess.
11. 힌두교 신들은 대체로 아름답다.
Hindu goddess is usually depicted as a beautiful lady.
12. 대형휴게소.
Large rest area.
13. 시원하면서도 현대식으로 잘 설계되었다.
The rest area was designed in modern style, and was refreshing.
14. 각기 다른 영업점 3개가 나란히 있으면서 경쟁을 한다.
Three stores of same item are competing, side by side.
15. 대형 수로인데 물이 말랐다.
Large waterway was dry.
16. 상류쪽에 보이는 수문. 어떤 수로는 맑은물이 가득차 있는 반면 이런 수로도 있는 것이다. 관리를 능숙하게 하는듯 하다.
The sluice was seen upstream. Some waterways were dry, and some had flowing water.
They are managing the waterways very efficiently, I think.

18. 짜임새 있어 보이는 생과일주스 가게
This raw fruit-juice stall was tidy.
19. 도로변의 현대식 음식점
A modern restaurant at roadside.
20. 가까이 가니 조각작품도 보인다.
When I went close, I could see sculptures.
21. 점심으로 치킨과 야채볶음밥을 먹었다.
I ate chicken and fried rice with vegetables.
22. Karnal 행정구역을 벗어나고 있다.
I am going out of Karnal city area.
23. 정차해둔 차량에서 아이들이 뛰쳐나왔다.
These boys came out of a car and took a picture with me.
24. 한참을 걷다보니 경찰차가 옆에 선다. 갑자기 이상한 나그네가 대로변을 걷고 있다는 소식이 들은듯. 하지만 몇분만에 함박웃음과 함께 셀피.
After a while, a police vehicle stopped beside me. Probably somebody called police and made a report about a stranger walking on the road. But, they burst into laughters in a few minutes. I took a selfie with them.
25. 모자 쓴 분이 상급자다. 사진을 찍으려고 일부러 모자를 꺼내왔다.
The man with hat is senior policeman. He took out his hat purposely for the picture.
26. 이 분은 인상이 깊었던지 헤어진후 곧바로 안부의 이메일을 보내왔다. 그안에서 필자에게 Sir라고 표현한다.
The policeman was impressed by a pilgrim. Soon after we departed, he sent me an e-mail.
He used the word 'Sir' for me in his e-mail.
27. 이 동네는 말을 키우고 있다.
People are raising horses in this village.

29. 힌두문학을 전공하는 대학생들. 오토바이를 타고 지나가다가 필자를 보고는 일부러 생수병을 들고 기다렸다. 짜이와 과자를 놓고 많은 이야기를 주고 받았다.
The college student who major in Hindu literature. They rode motorcycles and saw me. They stopped and waited for me in order to give me bottled water. We had a long conversation, eating chai and cookies.
30. 기다릴 때의 모습이 멋있으니 재현하자고 필자가 제안해서 촬영을 했다.
I said "When you were waiting for me, your appearance was very good. Le'ts repeat for the photo."
