원래 잡았던 위의 코스는 터널이 아주 긴것이 있어서 아래와 같이 囯道2호선 옛도로로 변경했다.

그리하여 거리가 28.2km로 늘어나게 되었다.

The original course scheduled was going through a long tunnel,

so I changed the course to national road no. 2.

As a result, the new course became 28.2 km.

하루종일 비가 내리다. 봄비같은 장마~

It rained all day long.  It is rainy season in this area.  

Rainwater was soft like spring rain.   

오타케역 출발

We started at Ohtake station.

이와쿠니 항구를 지나서~

We passed by Iwakuni port.

힘차게 전진 ~ 

보기보다 교통량이 많은 도로. 운전자는 스마트폰을 보지 않고 바깥을 보므로 홍보효과는 좋은 편.

차창을 열고 '간바레'(힘내세요)를 외치거나 박수를 치는 이들도 있었다.

Step forward!

The traffic was heavier than I expected. 

The drivers usually look out instead of looking at smart phone. 

Therefore most drivers see us. 

Some of them open the window and shouted 'Ganbare! (Cheer up!)' or clapped.   

The effect of public relations was very high.

We took a black-and-white picture in front of famous Gintai Bridge which was made of wood.

경치좋은 길을 하루종일 걷다~

All day long, we walked along the road with beautiful scenery. 

위 사진의 논두렁은 바위로 축조되었고, 그것도 오래전에 만들어진듯 하다. 

이십년전 필자가 일본지방여행 할 때 관찰한 것인데, 이 땅은 경사가 급하고 강수량이 많아 홍수가 나면 피해가 커서 옛부터 농업토목이 발달했다. 일본열도에 3천미터 산들도 즐비하고 강들이 짧고 경사가 급한 데다 해양성기후이기 때문이다. 한반도와는 다르다. 

대체로 물을 다루는 솜씨가 뛰어나다. 농작물 유실과 토양 유실을 막는 것은 생존을 위한 기본조건. 마을단위의 조직적인 대처가 일상적이어서 수직적인 역할분담이 발달한듯. 가령 촌장의 권력이 강해질 수밖에 없다. 그 결과 분업도 고도화. 

과거 이어령선생이 일본인이 '축소지향'이라고 해놓고 그 이유에 대해서는 밝히지 않았는데, 현장을 보면 그런 수직적 조직문화의 연유가 관찰된다.

In the picture above, the levee of rice paddy is made of rocks in ancient times. 

When I traveled the countryside of Japan, 20 years ago, I found out a geographic characteristics.

In Japan, the maritime climate supplies much rain in summer.     

There are several mountains which have altitude of more than 3,000 meters. 

The rivers flow on steep slope, and the length of the river is usually short. 

Therefore, agricultural civil engineering has developed to control high flood water. 

The technology of water management has developed in order to protect agricultural products and prevent soil erosion.  To control flood, massive efforts of all villagers are necessary. 

The division of labor was required and the authority of village chief was strong. 

Korean scholar, Lee Eo-Ryeong, used the word "downsizing" in order to express the characteristics of Japanese culture.  But he did not explain why downsizing has developed in Japan. 

I think the geographic characteristics of Japan is one of the reasons of downsizing. 

6월초가 지나도록 수확하지 않고 있는 보리가 눈에 띈다.

It is early June.  Still, they have not reaped barley.

전형적인 시골역 긴메이지역에 도착하다~

단선철로의 역으로서 한두시간에 하나꼴로 지나다닌다.

We arrived at Kimmeji station which was a typical station in countryside.

It was a station having one-lane railroad. 

The train passes once every two hours.
