Everyone who lives on this earth lives in a social system and lives in various relationships, and while talking about how Christians should behave in these relationships, Peter puts the core of all relationships in Christ, with roots of actions focused on Jesus. Therefore, all our thoughts and actions that are the basis of our lives must come from Jesus Christ.
How should we live as God's people? In verse 21, it is written, "Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow His steps." Jesus left us examples regarding suffering. He did not respond humanely to those who caused suffering, but rather asked God to judge them with justice. We have to follow the example Jesus showed us this way.
Jesus Christ is the standard and model of our lives. There are many traces of Jesus' suffering recorded in the Bible, and we must follow the traces of those sufferings. Following in the footsteps of Jesus is the easiest way for us to go and overcome hardships. If you completely obey and follow Jesus, you will enjoy the blessing of entering the eternal kingdom of God that God has prepared for us.
