Live in Christ

Summary:
As believers have received Christ Jesus as Lord, they are called to continue living in Him. Their lives should remain firmly rooted and built up in Christ, strengthened in the faith they were taught, and overflowing with gratitude. The passage presents the Christian life not as a departure from the gospel they first received, but as a steady continuation in Christ—growing deeper, becoming established, and responding with thankfulness.

At the same time, Paul warns them to be careful not to be taken captive by empty and deceptive teaching. Such teaching may appear persuasive, but it is based on human tradition and the basic principles of the world rather than on Christ. The passage contrasts a life grounded in Christ with a life misled by ideas that do not come from Him. The central call is to remain in Christ, be strengthened in true faith, and guard against any teaching that draws the believer away from Him.

Teaching:
When our hearts become more like Jesus, and when our words and actions begin to resemble Him, that is what it means to take root in Him. If we live each day rooted in Christ, then we will be built up on that foundation.

As we read, hear, keep, and practice the Word, the roots of our faith grow deeper, and upon those roots we build the house of faith.

When we receive grace and come to know Jesus, we are able to say “Amen” to the Word, regardless of which pastor is speaking. That is the image of a holy person of God—someone who is working out their salvation.

Following Christ is something truly special. It is different from the various ideologies or philosophies that people talk about. Jesus is Christ Jesus, and He is the Lord Jesus. Therefore, let us also grow into mature faith, not losing the salvation given to us, but continuing to work out that salvation for as long as we live.
