Little Boy Blue
THE little toy dog is covered with dust,
But sturdy and stanch he stands;
The little toy sholder is covered with rust,
And his musket molds in the hands.
Time was when the little toy dog was new,
And the soldier was passing fair;
And that was the time when our Little Boy Blue
Kissed them and put them there.
"Now, don't you go till I come," he said,
"And don't you make any noise!"
So, toddling off to his trundle-bed,
He dremt of the pretty toys;
And, as he was dreaming, an angel song
Awakened our Little Boy Blue--
Oh! the years are many, the years are long,
But the little toy friends are true!
Aye, faithful to Little Boy Blue they stand,
Each in the same old place--
Awaiting the touch of a little hand,
The smile of a little face;
And they wonder, as waiting the long years through
In the dust of that little chair,
What has become of our Little Boy Blue,
Since he kissed them and put them there.

작은 아가 블루-
작은 장난감 개는 먼지로 덮여 있습니다.
그러나 그는 건장하게 버티고 서 있습니다.
작은 장난감 병정은 녹이 슬어 빨갛게 되었습니다.
그리고 총은 손에 잡힌 채 썩고 있습니다.
작은 장난감 개도 새것인 때가 있었습니다.
또 그 병정도 멋있게 이쁜 때가 있었습니다.
그건 작은 아가 블루-가 그것들에 입맞추고
거기에 놓았을 때였습니다.
“자 내가 올 때까지 움직이면 안돼.
그리고 떠들지도 마.” 아가는 말했습니다.
그리곤 바퀴 달린 침대로 아장아장 걸어가서,
이쁜 장난감들 꿈을 꾸고 있을 때 어떤 천사의 노래가
작은 아가 블루-의 잠을 깨웠습니다.
아! 그건 먼 옛 일, 그리고 오래 전 일.
그러나 장난감 동무들은 충실히 서 있습니다.
정말 그들은 작은 아가 블루-에게 충실했습니다.
모두 서 있던 그 자리에 서서
작은 그 손에 만져지기를 기다리고 있습니다.
작은 얼굴의 미소를 기다리고 있습니다.
그리고 오랫동안을 작은 의자의
먼지 속에서 기다리며, 궁금해 합니다.
자기들을 입맞추고 거기 놓고 간
작은 아가 블루-는 어떻게 되었을까 하고.

단어가 어렵지 않고 , 낭독해보니 청각적 효과가 괜찮은 것 같아요.
옛날 장난감들은 주인인 우리의 말을 참 잘 들었는데, 요즘 장난감들(컴퓨터, 전기 전자 작동 완구 등)은 주인 말을 안듣고 제멋대로일 때가 많지요.
한때 아꼈던 소품, 책, 음반 같은 것들 한 번 들여다봐주세요. 저들은 여러분을 아직 그리워하고 있으니까요.
