KARWAR: Poetry is very basic to human nature and all other forms of literature emanated from it. All are basically poets, but writing poetry is difficult, according to poet and publisher Vishnu Naik.
Delivering the keynote address at a two-day, district-level workshop at the Bapuji Arts and Commerce College, Sadashivgad, near here, Naik advocated a free flow of powerful feelings and let such feelings take the particular form of poetry rather than the form deciding the content.
R Laxminarain, writer and Joint Director of Collegiate Education, inaugurating the workshop, called for nurturing of the latent poetic talent by training and reading.
"Poetic talent alone was not enough and writers and poets needed to work hard and read more to acquire knowledge," he said, adding that aspiring writers and poets should keep their minds open to the influences of all languages.
P S Rane, former minister and president, Bapuji Grameena Vikas Samsthe, urged poets and writers to help built a value-based society free of corruption and greed.
Students from various colleges in the district participated in the two-day workshop, aimed at training students to write poems, essays and stories. It was organised jointly by the BGVS College of Arts and Commerce, Kannada and Culture Department, Kannada Development Authority and Kannada Sahitya Parishad.
Kannada litterateurs of the district Shripad Shetty, Jameerullah Sharief, M G Hegde, Pratibha Hegde, N S Bhat, Shreedhar Balgar and Krishna Nayak guided the students in writing poetry, short-stories and essays. Students read out their poems and stories at the end of the workshop.
