오늘은 바다의 날입니다. 이 시가 어딘가에 등록 되어 있어도 오늘 이 시를 나누고 싶어 올립니다. 바다랑 가까이 살 때는
바다를 거들떠 보지도 않았는데 이제 멀리 있으니까 너무 보고 싶습니다. 바다는 황동규 시인의 '즐거운 편지' 의 한 구절 처럼 제게 너무 사소한 배경이 되어 있어 그동안 저를 채우고 있었음을 몰랐습니다.

On the seashore of endless worlds children meet.
The infinite sky is motionless overhead
and the restless water is boisterous.
On the seashore of endless worlds the children meet
with shouts and dances.
They build their houses with sand,
and they play with empty shells.

The sea surges up with laughter,
and pale gleams the smile of the sea-beach.
Death-dealing waves sing meaningless ballads to the children,even like a mother while rocking her baby's cradle.

아득한 나라 바닷가에 아이들이 모였습니다.
머리 위로는 무한한 하늘이 고요히 머물고
파도는 쉼 없이 거칠게 몰아칩니다.
아득한 나라 바닷가에서 아이들이 모여
소리치고 춤을 춥니다.
아이들은 모래로 집을 짓고,
빈 조개껍질을 가지고 놉니다.
마른 나뭇잎으로 배를 만들어
방긋 웃으며 막막한 깊은 바다로 띄워 보내기도 합니다.
아이들이 바닷가 에서 놀고 있습니다.
아이들은 헤엄 칠 줄도 ,그물은 던질 줄도 모릅니다.
아이들이 조약돌을 모았다가 그것을 다시 흩어버리는 동안
진주 조개를 잡는 이는 조개 잡으러 물속으로 뛰어들고,상인들은 돛벌려 오가는데
아이들은 숨겨진 보물들을 찾을 줄도 모르고 어떻게 그물을 던져야 하는지도 모릅니다.
바다는 웃으며 물결치고,
바닷가 해변의 얼굴은 희미한 미소를 드러냅니다.
죽음을 다루는 물결은 아기의 요람을 흔들면서
노래를 부르는 엄마처럼 의미가 담기지 않은 노래를 부릅니다.
바다가 아이들과 함께 놀고 있고,그리고 바닷가 해변의 얼굴에는 희미한 미소가 퍼집니다..
아득한 나라 바닷가에 아이들이 모였습니다.
길 없는 하늘에 폭풍들이 으르렁 거리고
배들은 자취 없는 바다 속으로 산산히 부서져 사라지고,
죽음은 배위에 있고 아이들은 놀고 있습니다.
