Latin/Greek 어원에 얽힌 이야기: (2) 잠의 신(Hypnos/Somnus)
고대 그리스 사람들은 많은 자연현상(Natural phenomenon)과 함께 인간의 감정(emotions)과 행동(behavior)도 신들에 의해 조정된다고 믿었다. 그 중에 하나가 바로 잠(sleep)이었다. 그리스 신화(Greek mythology)에서는 잠의 신(God of Sleep)을 Hypnos(힙노스)라 불렀으며, 로마신화(Roman mythology)에서는 같은 신을 Somnus(솜너스)라고 불렀다.
이 두 가지 잠의 신(God of Sleep)으로부터 다음과 같은 영어단어들이 유래하였다.
