The following series of photos shows the Elkhorn Lake in Columbia, Maryland. The lake is surrounded by several communities of beautiful townhomes and single family homes. The lake is the first pre-planned artificial lake in the United States, and it maintains its clean water all the year round by intentionally opening at one end to invite constantly flowing fresh stream water into the lake and by making excessive amount of water naturally overflowing over a low dam at the other end. People can get access to it through numerous pathways which connect the communities with the lake. They walk, jog, or bike around the lake through a paved beltway surrounding it. The beltway meets several pathways at different points, leading to many communities of houses near the lake.

Above the lake lies a transparent autumn sky.
Upper right hand corner lies a wooden structure floating on the lake, which serves as a fishing pier. Rainbow trout and bluegills, which usually live in clean water, are the two main kinds of fish living in the lake. Every weekend many anglers visit this pier to catch fish.
