At the heart of Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu lies Kimu Practice, which not only enhances martial skills but also cultivates inner awareness and harmony of body, mind, and spirit.
Some people may not believe that martial arts can be connected to healing, or may reject the idea that the energy flowing within the body is part of a larger, conscious nature beyond our control.
I fully understand why this can be hard to accept—after all, this perspective is being introduced for the first time in the 21st century.
Skepticism is natural. But I believe that through actual experience with Kimu Training, people may come to understand it in their own time and way.
In this practice,
practitioners begin to sense the natural, effortless flow of energy—an experience that is not artificial, but deeply real and personal.
This energy flow extends beyond martial arts; it connects to daily life, as everything we experience is shaped by the condition of our mind.
Interestingly, the foundational principles of this training can be traced back over 10,000 years to ancient traditions that emphasized the unity of mind and body—long before modern religions existed.
In that era, cultivating both pen and sword—Skills, Philosophy, and Medicine (Healing)—was essential for true leadership. It was considered a prerequisite to refine both body and mind in order to serve others wisely.
I believe I came to recognize these connections through a truly special calling. With that sense of purpose, I’ve been committed to sharing this path with people across the globe.
To be absolutely clear: Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu has no relation to any religion. While some terms may draw from spiritual or philosophical language, they are used only to deepen understanding—not to promote any belief system.
In my 35 years of practicing and teaching Haedong Kumdo, I have never advocated any religion.
There is neither space nor purpose for religion within martial arts training—and it simply doesn’t reflect who I am or what I teach.(But I can explain it by the principle of nature for sure if needed)
