《The Philosophy of Human Training in the Age of AGI
— Human Consciousness in a Civilizational Transition and the Training of Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu》

■ Part III
Body and Consciousness — Why Human Consciousness Begins in the Body

-----

① Consciousness Is Not Formed by the Mind Alone

Human consciousness does not begin in the head. It is formed and matures through bodily sensations and lived experience.

For a long time, humans have understood thought and consciousness as functions of the mind.

Knowledge is learned through the mind,
and judgment is made through the mind.
However, when we closely observe human life,
consciousness is not created by thinking alone.

Human beings:
experience the world through the body,
perceive situations through bodily sensation,
and form their standards of judgment through bodily responses.

Therefore, human consciousness can maintain a stable state only when
thinking and bodily experience function together.

Generally, a stable state of body and mind may be understood as a comfortable and relaxed condition.

However, in Kimu training, a stable state of consciousness refers to
the “reference point of the mind” or a “zeroed mind.”

② Modern Society and the Separation from the Body

Modern scientific civilization has made human life increasingly convenient,
and along with this, human consciousness has also developed.

Technological advancement has reduced physical labor,
and information technology is increasingly automating human thinking processes.

In the near future, Physical AI will likely take over most human tasks.
While these changes provide convenience,
they may also lead humans further away from their own bodies.

As bodily experience decreases and life becomes dominated by thought and information,
the connection between body and consciousness may weaken.

At this point, human consciousness may become increasingly unstable.

This is why Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu emphasizes:
Return to your original mind. That is the way to live.”

When one becomes aware of the connection between:
the physical self and the mental self,
the unconscious self and the conscious self,
the visible self and the invisible self,
one can move toward the ultimate purpose of human life.

③ Bodily Sensation and Human Judgment

The reason humans can make quick and accurate decisions
is not simply because they possess knowledge.

When bodily awareness is alive,
humans can sense subtle changes in situations
and respond naturally.

Athletes do not make instant decisions by calculation,
but because their bodies already perceive the situation.

Thus, human judgment is deeply connected to bodily sensation.

In Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu training, we often use the terms
Wavelength Movement” and “Adapting to the Flow in Surrounding.
Training through Follow the Energy is based on understanding "wavelength movement".

Through this training, one develops the ability to adapt not only in martial arts but also in daily life.

④ Natural Movement and the Wisdom of the Body

The human body is originally designed to move according to the Principle of Nature.

It maintains balance naturally,
uses only necessary force,
and responds appropriately when needed.

However, excessive intention and tension disrupt this natural movement.

The wisdom of the body does not come from force,
but is revealed through natural movement.

This aligns with the principle in Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu that all movement is understood through the Principle of Nature.

⑤ Energy Flow and Movement of the Body

When the body moves naturally,
an internal flow of energy is formed.
Conversely, unnatural movement leads to excessive energy consumption, stagnation, and blockage.

This flow involves:
muscle tension and relaxation,
changes in breathing,
shifts in balance.

When movement is natural, the flow continues smoothly.
When tension arises, the flow is easily blocked.

Understanding bodily movement, therefore, goes beyond technique.

It is the beginning of understanding "Energy Flow" within the body.

⑥ Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu Training and Body Awareness

The core of Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu training is understanding
the principle of natural movement of the body.

Rather than forcing movement,
training creates a condition where the body can move naturally.

This becomes both the foundation and the path toward the ultimate goal.

Through this process, practitioners:
develop refined bodily awareness,
recognize internal flow,
and realize the connection between body and consciousness.

⑦ Stabilizing Consciousness Through the Body

When bodily awareness is alive,
human consciousness becomes stable.

When breathing is balanced,
when bodily equilibrium is maintained,
and when sensory clarity is present,
humans can clearly perceive their condition.

In this state:
judgment is not easily shaken,
and appropriate choices can be made.
Thus, training through the body
is not merely physical exercise,
but a process of stabilizing consciousness.

However, the level and depth of this experience vary greatly depending on each individual.

In Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu,
"Balanced Breathing(고른 호흡)" and "Balanced Mind(고른 마음)" are fundamental.
These bring stability to consciousness through the body.

⑧ Conclusion

In the age of AGI,
we live in an environment overflowing with technology and information.

Yet in such an environment,
human consciousness may become even more unstable.

What humans need is not more information,
but the ability to:
maintain their center,
manage their inner state,
and make correct judgments according to each situation.

This center is not formed by thought alone.
When one feels the flow of nature through the body
and recognizes the connection between body and consciousness,
one stands firmly in one’s center.

The training philosophy of Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu
presents the path for realizing this connection.

No matter how civilization changes,
human consciousness is ultimately restored through the body.

Kimu training is the fundamental method that makes this possible.

Kimu training enables one to recognize:
the blockage and opening of energy,
convergence and expansion,
and through the realization of
“the principle of the body moving naturally,”
to restore both mind and body in each moment.

Therefore:
return to the body,
do not interfere with thought,
be aware before reacting,
and allow movement to follow the flow.

Then consciousness naturally aligns.
The fundamental concepts required for this training are:
the Principle of Natural Movement of the Body”
and
“Follow the Energy.”
