Human Resilience and Training
— What Remains in Humanity Beyond Changing Civilizations,
and Adaptation of the Autonomic Nervous System in the Age of AGI

-----

Civilization grows through expansion,
but human beings survive through resilience.

Here, we also examine the relationship between resilience and the autonomic nervous system of the body.

① The Progress of Civilization and Human Misconception

Human civilization has continuously developed:
The Agricultural Revolution
The Industrial Revolution
The Information Revolution
And now, we are entering a new turning point—the age of AGI.
As technology advances,
human life becomes more convenient,
and productive capacity increases significantly.
However, within this progress,
humans often fall into a misconception:
that as civilization develops,
humans will automatically become stronger.

But history shows that
the advancement of civilization and the strength of human beings
have not always moved in the same direction.
For example:
Ancient Rome declined in vitality despite its wealth and reliance on slave labor.
The Spanish Empire weakened as its productive foundation collapsed despite immense wealth from gold and silver.
In the late Ottoman and Qing dynasties, systems remained, but human responsiveness and awareness gradually declined.
Thus, the development of civilization does not guarantee human strength;
it may, in fact, lead to human weakening.
Civilization advances,
but if human beings do not grow alongside it,
that civilization will eventually collapse on its own.
As civilization advances,
humans fall into indulgence and decadence,
leading to deterioration in both physical and mental health.
In particular, arrogance and moral decay among those in power eventually return everything to its origin.
The natural law of appearing, transforming, and disappearing
exists in all things.
In Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu training,
“recovery” means returning the human mind to its original position
in each moment—
maintaining one’s center
and rediscovering one’s original mind.

② Human Ability Revealed When Civilization Shakes

History shows many civilizations that flourished
but suddenly declined or collapsed.
War
Economic collapse
Natural disasters
Structural changes in society
Under such conditions,
civilization can easily be shaken.
However, one interesting fact remains:
Even when civilizations collapse,
human beings rarely disappear.
Humans always find ways to survive
in new environments.
This is human resilience.

③ The Source of Human Resilience

Human resilience does not arise merely from physical strength.
It comes from:
the body’s ability to adapt
sensitivity to the environment
the ability to learn from experience
the ability to form communities
Through these, humans rebuild life
in any condition.
These are abilities that remain
even without technology or tools.
Thus, when civilization collapses,
what remains is not technology,
but the human being itself.
And this depends on the quality of one’s mind.
The phrase “All things arise from the mind” applies uniquely to human beings,
revealing that the root of resilience lies in the human mind.

④ Bodily Skills and Human Survival

Before the rise of modern civilization,
bodily skills were essential for human survival.
Hunting
Farming
Tool-making
These were fundamental abilities for living in nature.
Although such skills have diminished today,
bodily awareness and adaptability remain essential.
When bodily awareness is alive,
humans can respond quickly to environmental changes
and maintain their center in new situations.
To awaken bodily awareness means
being able to observe oneself from a third-person perspective.
Thus, all true practice begins with awakening the senses.
This is why Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu introduces
the experience of natural spontaneous movement from the very beginning.

⑤ Training and Human Resilience

The meaning of training is not merely acquiring skills.
Training develops body and consciousness
so that humans can maintain their center.
Through movement, breath, and awareness,
humans come to understand themselves more clearly.
This enables one to remain grounded
in any environment.
Thus, training is not a hobby or exercise,
but a method of cultivating human resilience.
When martial arts are understood through a structural, threefold philosophical framework,
human resilience is deeply connected to the embodiment of
the fundamental principle of all existence—Energy Flow.

⑥ The Training Philosophy of Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu

Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu integrates:
Technique
Philosophy
Healing
Through movement,
one understands the flow of nature,
and through understanding that flow,
consciousness stabilizes.
As bodily balance and awareness recover,
healing naturally occurs.
This integration connects training
to the entirety of human life.
Human life itself is the process of understanding
the interaction between visible and invisible aspects
and adapting appropriately to conditions and circumstances.
Ultimately, the purpose of Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu
is to guide one toward the ultimate goal of both martial arts and human life.

⑦ AGI and Human Resilience

In the age of AGI,
technology may replace many human roles:
Production
Analysis
Information processing
Decision-making
However, even in such an age,
one thing remains:
the human ability to recover oneself.
Technology depends on infrastructure,
but human resilience exists within
body and consciousness.
Thus, regardless of how civilization changes,
the human center remains within.

⑧ AGI, Kimu, and Autonomic Adaptation

Modern society constantly stimulates the sympathetic nervous system.
Humans are surrounded by internal and external factors that maintain a state of tension.
In a competitive and unpredictable AGI era,
body and mind become increasingly sensitive to stimuli.
This directly affects the autonomic nervous system,
and thus health and well-being.
Kimu training optimizes body and mind
by reducing excessive tension
and restoring proper autonomic function.
AGI demands maximum output,
but humans must maintain optimal balance
to sustain long-term vitality.
Kimu is the practice of maintaining this optimal state.
This optimal state corresponds to
the Middle Way, balance, and harmony.

⑨ Kimu Training and the Autonomic Nervous System

Kimu training is not about building physical technique first.
It is about learning not to interfere
with the natural order already functioning within the body.
It cultivates diversity of natural movement
and maintains optimal conditions for autonomic balance.
The autonomic nervous system cannot be controlled consciously.
Yet stress, desire, and ignorance disrupt it.
Kimu restores natural bodily balance
through openness and sincere intent.
The body naturally seeks equilibrium.
The problem arises when we interfere with force.
Kimu emphasizes:
removing unnecessary force
natural breathing
allowing automatic regulation of the autonomic system
It is not about suppressing the sympathetic system
or artificially enhancing the parasympathetic.
It is about returning to natural balance—
the state of Wu-Wei (non-doing).
Training for Aging Practitioners
For older practitioners,
what is needed is stability, not intensity.
Gradual transitions,
activation of subtle internal flow,
and natural breathing rhythms are essential.
Kimu does not force the aging body.
It restores self-regulation within natural limits.
Autonomic balance is not technique, but structure.
Kimu restores that structure.
Wu-Wei stops physiological excess.
Recovery comes first; achievement follows.
When the body aligns with natural law,
the autonomic system self-regulates.
Kimu is the practice that restores this memory.
It is not the path of adding force,
but of removing it.

⑩ Conclusion

AGI pushes toward the maximum.
Humans must seek the optimal.
Autonomic stability is the foundation of human optimality.
Kimu restores this through the body.
Especially for aging practitioners,
stability precedes strengthening.
Kimu removes interference,
allowing both motor and autonomic systems to function naturally.
In the age of AGI,
those who restore bodily rhythm will ultimately succeed—
because it sustains health and happiness.
AGI creates:
constant stimulation
uncertainty
competitive comparison
sleep disruption
reduced physical activity
All of which weaken resilience.
Thus, in the AGI era,
not maximum—but optimal balance—is the strategy for survival.
Kimu does not strengthen control,
but removes interference from natural regulation.
This is why moderation, humility, and restraint are essential.
Throughout human history,
humility and gratitude have sustained human resilience.
Civilization continues to change,
but one thing remains:
humans are beings capable of restoring themselves.
If humans lose their center,
civilizational progress loses its meaning.
Thus, what is needed is not merely technological advancement,
but the power to restore oneself.
The philosophy of Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu
guides this path through direct bodily experience.
No matter how civilization changes,
what remains is
the trained human consciousness and resilience.
