모든 선박은 9자리의 MMSI No.를 가지고 있다
MMSI (Maritime Mobile Service Identity : 해상이동업무식별번호)
MMSI의 처음 3자리의 번호를 MID (Maritime Identification Digits)라고 한다
한국(MID : 440, 441)의 예를 보면
a) Ship Station – 440123000 (3-digit MID and the trailing 6 digits of ship identity)
b) Group of Ships – 044001143 (1 leading zero)
c) Coast Station – 004401004 (2 leading zero) / 부산해경
MMSI 사용기기 : VHF, MF/HF, AIS, EPIRB
참고로 Inmarsat-C는 MMSI No. 가 없고 Inmarsat-C ID No.로 사용됨
